sharkey38 :  I would probably stick to the original plan, and move it up to an earlier date. Sounds like the restaurant is special to both of you.

I’m kind of curious, so you’ll propose to him then wait for him to propose back- will you consider yourselves engaged right away or do you have to wait till he proposes to you? And is there an agreed upon timeline for how long he gets before he has to propose back? I know this isn’t the point of your post but I’m genuinely curious as I’ve never heard of a proposal like this.

Is the family dinner planned at the same restaurant? If not I would honestly just stick to your original plan on his actual birthday!

sharkey38 :  Gotcha, that’s pretty cool, seems like a win win for both of you. Good luck with your proposal!

If you are going to be totally disappointed if he doesn’t “propose” to you in SF, then I would just ask him there. As you said, you will have the memory on your own terms.

I’d probably just do 2 fancy dinners for his bday and spoil him, and do it like the original plan!
