My seamstress gave me my dress back a month before the wedding, I also had her personal cell phone number and strict instructions to call her if I needed anything at all if something happened with the fit.

I think getting it the day before would give me an eye twitch too. I would be very stern that I need at at least a week before.

How much weight could you possibly lose (or even put on) in a week? That’s a very strange excuse, especially since her argument is that you’d be sorry if the dress doesn’t fit right…that’s all the more reason to pick it up earlier! Just because she’s sweet doesn’t mean you have to put up with poor service.

kiram :  Good point. I wonder if she knows she’s maybe screwed up on the dress and wants you to pick it up the day before because by then there will be no time to argue and make her fix it if something is wrong.

Say firmly that you will need to pick up the dress by x date at the latest. Make that date, say, two weeks before the wedding. How much can your weight really change in two weeks? It’ll be fine.

starsandsakuras :  Tell her that once you recieve the final fitted dress your weight will not be her concern and you don’t wish to discuss it any longer!

I would get it from her at least a week or even two before. Frankly she doesn’t sound trustworthy so I’d take it even if it weren’t finished but I can sew so could finish it myself. Otherwise go and sit it out in her workshop until she finishes.

Is anything about prices in writing? If not, get it in writing and refuse to pay more.

Has your weight changed since she first measured you?

starsandsakuras :  if your weight fluctuates monthly then I would even try to get the dress a month before the wedding as you’ll be closer to size then. Has she already brought it in more? Can you et her to write down all the charges so far next time you see her and then she can’t decide on a while to take it in or out and charge more without discussing first? Which part of the top do you think is big now? All that work should be doable in a month, where I live (in a developing country) it would be done within a few days…

The top is beautiful. No need to apologise for venting, I hope it ends up as you want!
