If you have your heart set on a diamond, I highly recommend Blue Nile! Their customer service is fantastic. My diamond was just under $1200, and the setting is 14k white gold for $400. .58 carat, F colour, SI1 clarity.

Mine is a .60 light green Montana Sapphire with recycled diamonds in platinum. It was right around $1500.

Here is mine! We got it at a pawn shop for $300, so well under $2000. It’s about 1/3 of a carat of diamonds set in 14k white gold. I wear a size 9 ring.

We got a discount since the jeweler is a friend, but the base cost of my ring is $1800. The center stone is a 6mm square/princess cut Charles & Colvard moissanite (not forever brilliant), and two amethysts in the peekaboo. The metal is palladium.

If you’re looking for a big stone but can’t afford/don’t want a diamond, I suggest looking into moissanite (or Amora Gems when they’re available in the US later this year). I also highly recommend palladium, it’s very similar to platinum but a fraction of the cost.

Bought mine on-sale at Zales for $589 (Originally priced $859, 20% off sale, and then $100 off coupon). We also bought the protection plan for $100 something that included unlimited resizing. It’s a lab created emerald, which I prefer more because of the color pop, accented with 1/5ct diamonds. I originally wanted white sapphires for the cost and ethical benefit, but I like the sparkle of dimaonds. White sapphires just don’t quite have that pop, and little diamonds didn’t add much to the cost.

Some days I wish my ring were just a tiny bit “blingier”, but I know that would have driven up the cost a lot more. I figure this is an awesome engagement ring/wedding band for now, and maybe for a 5 year anniversary I’ll upgrade to celebrate making it through 5 years of marriage 😉

Here is the link to the Zales page that gives a better indication of how the ring looks. It even comes with it’s own hand model (LOL): http://www.zales.com/emerald-cut-lab-created-emerald-diamond-ring-10k-white-gold/product.jsp?productId=20297706′ defer=’defer

If you enjoy vintage and antique rings you can get more bang for your buck by looking at etsy or ebay. Don’t go through places like Tumpet & Horn though if you are looking for value. I believe they way way overcharge.
