Remember if you bring someone in from a different country to do your wedding, they may (or may not) need a visa, depending on countries involved. I know of a bride who was from the UK and getting married in Vegas and her photographer (also from the UK) was unable to enter the US because this is considered “working” in the US, not just visiting – since she was getting paid for a service that someone in the US could have done.

Just a thought to keep in mind when trying to get international people – even if they come from a VWP country, the VWP is to VISIT not to WORK.

My husband is a photographer … he does mostly lifestyle family photography, however, he also recently did a wedding and it turned out great!  He would be willing to shoot your wedding for free in exchange for travel costs.  PM me if you’d like to chat more and I’ll send you the link for his website.

runawayadventure :  Its not at all risky for you – but its completely risky for the photog. They are committing fraud by misrepresenting their presence in the US and could be turned away or banned from entering the country.

So I guess it’s a little risky to you too – if they are turned away upon trying to enter the country (frequent short visits, photography equipment), then you spent the money for nothing and still have no photographer.

runawayadventure :  I felt the same way you did when I married in Jamaica in 2008. My biggest thing were the photos. At the time my now husbands friend was suppose to be the one taking pictures for our wedding. 6 months prior he had medical issues that prevented him from traveling. Surprisingly enough I did not take it too hard. I simply spoke to my wedding planner (which was provided to me with our hotel package) and she emailed me previous work from the hotel wedding photographer and much to my dismay his work was simply beautiful. My point is be prepared for the unexpected. Especially when you are since you are planning a destination wedding. I had so many bumps (including a hurricane warning while on the island) along the way but at the end of the day all I cared about was being married.
