We only assigned tables and not seats. So we had a large seating plan poster board near the guest book table.

If you want to assign seats (not just tables), then you also need an escort card at their seat.

Jackie Vasquez :  You can do either. Whichever is easier or works with your decor. I did a poster sized sign. Most weddings I’ve gone to do little cards.

If you’re just doing assigned tables, not seats, a cute display near the guestbook/card table would be approprite. Check out Pinterest. There are so many ideas, rather than just a board with names.

We did the cards with the table number on them.  They were by the door and the guest book.  Then people grabbed their card to see their table number, and then they picked their seat at the table.

That worked very well.  A poster can also work, but I’m wondering if you’ll end up with a mass of people at the sign?

We had escort cards with table number on them all alphabetized.  The plan was for people to pick them up as they entered the reception and find their table but they were all blowing away on the table outside so they had to just be put out on the tables.  I didn’t have a big sign directing people to their tables but I guess people worked together and found their seats.  It helped that people were seated with their friends and family so I assume a friend would call everyone in that group to their table when they found it.
