I’m assuming since you mentioned hay that it’s a rustic outdoor wedding? I went to a wedding ceremony that took place in a big tent. They had 3 rows of chairs for those who needed them and asked those who didn’t to stand. It worked well and (as a guest) I didn’t mind a bit. However, if you had a longer ceremony or a large party this might not work as well. What about simple benches? Would that be any more affordable?

I think you should provide the $2 seats. The ceremony may only be 10 minutes, but many guests will be there 30 minutes before and women will be in heals. If they are standing on grass or dirt, that could be really annoying. Plus, with that many people, people will be struggling to see past each other.

i say provide a few rows of seating for close family members in the front, then have hay barrels in the back rows.

Hopefully your Future Sister-In-Law isn’t so allergic she cannot be near them…just have her sit on a chair with her parents etc…
