Hi Monty! I have been to a couple of receptions like this, and they worked fine. I didn’t like not having a place to leave my stuff, but other than that, the lack of schedule actually made the evening more freeflowing, and people just went to the buffet when they were hungry. No chaos, but it was tough to find a seat if you were one of the people who ate later, since most chairs were taken up. Just be sure to have plenty of extra room.

We’re telling people to expect a "buffet dinner of heavy hors’doerves." As long as there will be enough food on the plate to constitute a meal, I wouldn’t worry about people not having enough to eat or getting the wrong idea.
