- Wedding: January 2011
I don’t have the review for my photog and videographer yet because I’m still waiting to receive the product. I still wanted to share my other reviews though since I found it so helpful with my planning.
Venue and Caterer, Hollywood Schoolhouse and The Collectors Café in Woodinville, 2 Stars-The good – the schoolhouse is a beautiful venue that hardly requires any decoration and the food was delicious. Prior to the wedding, my experience with Lori Reeder with the schoolhouse and Frank with The Collectors Café was great. Lori was very responsive, allowing us to visit several times and Frank was easy to work with including within our budget and he allowed us to semi-customize the menu. Also, we received the deposit back very quickly and the caterers put to-go boxes of food and dessert in our limo which was a nice touch.
The bad – Unfortunately there were issues just before the wedding and on the wedding day. At the rehearsal, we saw that several Christmas trees and garland were still up (Jan 16 wedding). We requested it be taken down and were told no and that we would have to move the trees ourselves if we wanted but that the garland had to stay up no matter what. Sometime between the rehearsal and wedding the trees were at least removed.
On the wedding day, I paid for an extra hour to give time to decorate but at the scheduled time, not only was nothing setup for us to decorate (tables, chairs for the ceremony, tablecloths on tables, etc…), none of the Hollywood workers were around and did not make their presence known until well after. I was later told they were likely downstairs getting dishes ready but the things we needed setup in order to decorate were not done. Frank had stated his crew would place my tablecloths out but did not and none of the workers knew where the tablecloths were. There was no one who indicated they were the liaison to help us get the things we needed. I was later told there was someone in charge but she never made herself known.
The really bad – There was a bag leftover of decorations from the party the night/day before that we had to move a screen to hide. It did not appear they had cleaned up fully from the previous party. We had a cocktail hour while they turned the space over from ceremony to reception and we requested bottles of beer (more expensive) rather than kegs so that beer would be served in addition to wine since the cocktail hour was upstairs from the reception. However, there was only wine made available in plastic cups, which was unattended after the initial pouring, although we paid for a bartender, which forced us to run out of wine early. We had to order more which totaled over $200 more than our original bar bill was supposed to be.
Lastly, we paid extra for water glasses to be set on the reception tables and they were not. We wanted them to help give the illusion of a place setting to go with the napkin since silverware and plates would not be on the tables. I was later told the water glasses were placed somewhere else but I only wanted them for on the tables.
After the wedding I notified Lori of my issues and she expressed over and over that her team indicated the event went great. I told her I wanted my money back for half the extra hour I paid, half of the extra bar bill because beer wasn’t obviously made available, and all of my money back for the water glasses. She returned nothing. Her responses were only to defend her team for what they usually do despite me telling her what they actually did and to state that the bride and groom should’ve said something during the wedding even though they should’ve followed directions confirmed before the event.
DJ, Wave Link, 5 Stars-
Chris was awesome and WaveLink was a pleasure to work with. They found all the perfect songs for the ceremony and Chris kept the dance floor full all night. And the best part was the lighting. TOTALLY worth it. We also really liked Chris. We walked away from the meeting with confidence and I appreciated his patience. My husband thought I was telling Chris, the obvious professional, exactly what to do, and Chris never said a word although I’m sure he was thinking “duh!”. Thank you Chris and Wave Link! The value for the service we got was worth it.
Hotel, Willows Lodge, 5 Stars-
I LOVE the Willows Lodge. They helped me out when I realized 3 days before my wedding I had booked the wrong night. They found me a room even though initially it looked like they were booked up. Not only that, the customer service is out of this world. And the room was gorgeous. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.
Florist, Chastity Phillips, 4 Stars-
Chastity did not let me down! She was just starting out but I felt very confident with her. She took my design and that’s exactly what showed up on the wedding day. She worked with my budget.
Boudoir Photoshoot, Satine Boudoir, 5 Stars-
I love, love, love how my photos turned out. I went to the marathon session and after the first mimosa I felt so great! Ali was amazing. We chatted while I was getting hair and makeup done and I felt extremely comfortable. She was a professional as was her fiancé who I had previously agreed was ok to be in the room. He helped with the lighting and the pictures she took were incredible. I loved how the pictures turned out and showed everyone. I shopped around and Ali had the best price with the best photos.
Hair, Habitude at the Locks, 4 Stars-
Thank you to Kermit for my hair and Britnie, Aza, and Robert who did my bridesmaids and mom. I was a little stressed when, at the 1.5 hour mark, Britnie and Aza weren’t done yet as I never thought it would take that long for my bridesmaids but I expressed my concern and they finished up quickly and beautifully. I probably should’ve notified them of our timeline but I didn’t know because my hair only took about 45 min.
Dress and Alterations, Brides by Demetrios, 4 Stars-
My dress was beautiful and I had a wonderful experience with Demetrios from my first dress try-on to picking up after steaming. The alterations turned out great as well. My only complaint is that I was told my bustle would be ~$30 but then when it came time to pay it was over $70. This is because there were many “points” that had to be built in but it was still a shock. Also, Demetrios doesn’t automatically include steaming. Mine was included because I bought the dress during my first shopping trip but either way I think a dress shop should include it or at least as part of the alterations.
DOC, Klink!, 4 Stars-I really liked Rachel from the initial meeting and still do. Her correspondence before the wedding was amazing. Also, she took the time to visit the venue and make a very detailed floor plan for me including table layout and table numbers. She also helped communicate with the vendors the timeline and she was the key person in charge on the day.
However, on the wedding day there were some mistakes made. She did not verify the table numbers were in the right layout so in the end we were not sitting next to our families and some of our wedding party was stuck in the corner. I can only be thankful that our parent’s tables were together so one didn’t have a better location than the other. There was no lighter on the unity candle table so we had to grab one from a guest during the ceremony and prior to the wedding day, but after I had already given the escort cards to Rachel, we realized one of the guests name was wrong on their card. I notified Rachel it would need to be replaced and she was given the card on the wedding day but sadly the card was not replaced. As a hostess, I was very embarrassed by this.
In the end though, I think Rachel is a terrific DOC who made some mistakes she would never make again. She was very apologetic when we spoke after the wedding. It would have been very complicated to determine the table layout if not for her floor plan and it was very nice to give up the control of managing the vendors. I completely trusted her with that and the vendor coordination was flawless.
