I know we’ve all heard it a million times – if you want to style your hair start with day old hair that was washed/blow dried the night before.
I don’t know acount you ladies, but my day old hair is flat, my bangs have a million cowlicks and will be sticking out in every direction, not to mention my roots and scalp area actually hurts if it’s not clean. Put it in a pony tail or any other type of “do,” and it will surely hurt even more.
Yet they want me to show up with dirty hair for my hair appt? WTH? I don’t think I can do that and smell my dirty hair all day and endure a headache on my wedding day!

My day old hair is disgustingly greasy. When I was a bridesmaid in my cousin’s wedding I showered the night before instead of that morning and my hair held fine for my updo.

heck no. I feel gross if my hair isn’t washed every day.
Do what you know is best for your hair. (and your psyche)

I’ve been told that just washing it the night before is fine. Good, since like MissBoPeep, my day-old hair is gross!

You know your hair best so do what feels right to you.
I think that advice really depends on hair texture. I have naturally curly hair so I can go a few days without it looking greasy or flat. But I imagine women with straighter hair or thinner hair may not be able to go very long without washing it.

I, too, have to wash my hair every single day. My hair is ridiculously greasy if I don’t and my bangs separate into greasy clumps. It’s disgusting. I refuse the day old thing. They can use hair product to hold it up, not my grease. lol

i’m sure after just 1 day your hair doesn’t smell that poorly. i know that hair is easier to work with when it’s “dirty”. it’s not necessarily “dirty”; it’s just not “freshly cleaned”. clean or ‘stripped’ hair is more difficult to keep in a style b/c it’s usually too limp. that’s essentially what a lot of hair products do; they dirty your hair (mousse, gel, palmaid, etc.) and make it more managable to work with.
perhaps the day of, you can just wet it down but don’t wash it with shampoo.

Oh hell no. Wash your hair. I have fine hair that becomes greasy after one day. There is no way in hell I would have not washed my hair on my wedding day.

I guess I am an exception? I could go 4-5 days without washing my hair… It’s so not oily! But I don’t! I have tried it 3x to be sure that I wasn’t imagining it… I wash it every second day.

My hair is fine and my day old hair looks like this:

Yeah, even the night before washing will end in odd hair.
I don’t wash with shampoo daily, but I do get it wet while in the shower, use conditioner, and rinse. I told her that I would have to do that at the very least the day of if I want my various cowlicks to behave.

My stylist told me to wash my hair that morning and dry it. Be sure to have three hours before you try to do your hairstyle because your hair will hold that moisture and that will cause your style to go limp. She said to just shampoo and not condition it, this will help keep the style longer as well.

My hair is NASTY if I don’t wash every day. So I rinsed and conditioned my hair in the morning, but did not shampoo. It seemed to work out ok and I didn’t feel super gross.

@Sunfire: HAHA awesome.
I have stick straight, fine hair (but there’s a lot of it) and it looks pretty gross if it’s not freshly washed. For my hair trial, I went in with second day hair, and my hairstylist actually asked me to wash my hair for the day of. She said she could make it easier to work with using product, but it wouldn’t look as nice if it wasn’t freshly washed. My day of hair turned out great after I had washed it that morning.
