sscott06 :  I have not purchased much second hand, but I have an eccelctic group of furnishings that has some very old pieces…mostly from older famly. My pieces are authentic, too. I do not have any 18th century pieces like you, but some later 19th century and early 20th century pieces. I appreciated your ecclectic stle so much more than showroom prchased. I Do love authentic mid centruy modern pieces, but cannot seem to make them work in my space 🙂

I find your home to be a bit awe-inspiring…not quite sure it feels real to me, but it is quite stunning! It might not suit my lifestyle ( I am pretty messy and frankly, dirty, so I know i could not maintain it). There is nothing “American” about it, nor is it “mafia”. It looks quite Euroean to me, and the soft color pallette really pull it together.

I have several “reclaimed” pieces in my home that run the gamut from genuine 18th century dining room table to two book cases I picked up from someone’s garbage {OH THE HORROR}. Never anything upholstered, but older thing are generally really wood which is not what you find in a lot of modern made furniture.

OP has a certain aesthetic and works for her.  I don’t get the personal attacks.

Found these flowers and the dresser by the dumbster of my appartment on seperate ocations. We live in somewhat of a college town and there is always great free stuff around during August when everyone has to move out! Idk if it because they are too lazy to deal or because all the appartments have the move out date the same week as finals (to encourage people to release), but it makes for a fun treasure hunt! My Fiance says he is “marrying a dumpster diver” but I never actually go in the dumster, just stuff people leave next to it… lol I have found other items as well, but these are my two favorite.

 sscott06 :  I love a good deal!

Sorry the pix aren’t great, they are just what I happen to have today.

Here is our Jenny Lind replica bed that I painted. It also has a matching footboard and rails.         I love me some painted wood! It was about $30 off Craigs List, our fist purchase!

And here is a Mid Century Modern piece someone else painted ombre – in the same room. Yeah, I like a lotta color! Solid wood, dovetail joints. Love it! Can’t remember how much, $150-ish?

America is huge. Third in the world in both population & land area. We are also fairly ethnically diverse. We’ve made the mistake of conveniently grouping most Caucasians into the “white” group  (as if Europe is one homogeneous population).

When someone from another country declares something “typical” for Americans, it just shows their ignorance.

sscott06 :  I love thrifting or going to antique shops to see what unique things. This piece however was picked up from the side of the road lol. It was a green and gold framed mirror that looked like the previous owners started to paint it red but then gave up and threw it out. I brouht it home and made it beautiful. This is the mirror now: Sorry the pictures are so big i tried to resize them but it didnt work.

sscott06 :  Its all lovely, regardless. I am not sure what I meant by “real” either – lol. I am not well versed in furniture so I was probably stumbling around my words. I also think different parts of the country tend towards different styles. I am in New England. There was no need for the snarky comments you received and frankyl most of them sounded like people who were trying to sound much more knowledgeable than they actually probably are 😉

ButternutPoppy :  I adore Jacks! Amazing little dogs (or is yours a rat terrier?) Either way, both are great dogs!  Opps…edited to say I just realized they are two different pups 🙂

ponyrider :  I didn’t make any aesthetic judgment about this particular style. I was giving context for another Bee’s opinion.

sscott06 :  Like I said, happy to talk more about the cabinet over DM if you like.
