I’ve heard it called Yankee Swap. I would say the DVD is fine (assuming it’s not opened), but honestly, I think getting a used book when other people are paying money for a gift is a bit unfair. If you can’t afford to participate or just choose not, I don’t think thats a problem at all. But if you do decide to participate, it’s only fair to give a gift you wouldn’t mind receiving. I personally wouldn’t want to get a book that’s already been read when I spent $25 (or whatever the set limit is). Same goes for the book that you got your co worker. I don’t think there is anything necessarily wrong with regifting, but it should be something you haven’t made use of yet, in my opinion.

@kkkatieB12: Oh like the Yankee Swap/White Elephant.  LOL Whooooops!  I think any “novelty” item will do well in this situation.

I always put some alcohol into my office’s White Elephant.

I always wind up with the stupid gift, though.  Such a bummer.  I wish everyone would just put a bottle of wine or some beer onto the table and make everyone happy.

I think the book and the DVD will be fine. It’s not as if the words fall off the paper after its’ first reading.

I think it’s a clever gift that is actually worth more than the $10 limit.
