    My husband always complained because he couldn’t get rid of his tummy even though he worked out like crazy. I always told him that he needs to eat better.

    About three months ago he started counting calories and eating a lot healthier and he is looking amazing. His abs are insane.

    it comes down to having low levels of body fat around your abs. Genetics plays a big part. I have a good deal of fat but it tends to stay away from my midsection, so I can get abs fairly easily. Stress causes some people to accumulate belly fat.

    Getting lower levels of body fat in general involves diet and exercise.

    @kaylee26:

    Stress causes some people to accumulate belly fat – You are so right. I get this bloated pop belly when I’m going through a stressful time.

    One thing to remember when starting regimen is that it’s 20% exercise and 80% diet. Not the other way around…

    I think 20/80 might be undervaluing exercise. Exercise does help burn fat, and it makes your body look trimmer. Diet is really important for reducing scale weight, but exercise will make you look like you weigh less.

    Someone commented ‘no carbs’ and this is absolutely false information. Your body cannot survive without carbohyrdrates as it’s our main source of energy. Please do not take this advice. I hope the person meant ‘no simple carbs’. Healthy ‘complex’ carbs are the better choice. Goind low carb/no carb might be a ‘quick fix’ but is not a sustainable lifestyle.

    I voted ‘other’ because I believe it’s diet that is the ‘secret’. No amount of exercise will show your abs if you have a layer of fat covering them.

    Everyone thought I lost a good amount of weight for my wedding.  Truth is I lost only like 5 pounds but I toned up everywhere.

    I do 20 min moderate-strenuous cardio with strength training using 7-lb dumbbells.. combine squats, reverse leg lunges, planks, planks on dumbbells while alternating lat arm raises…

    ..all this while whittling down the amount of simple sugars/carbs intake.  Amazing how flat a stomach can look when you cut down on carbs.  Simple carbs & oil goes straight from the lips to the hips Tongue Out

    It’s a shame I didn’t discover bikram/hot yoga until AFTER the wedding..!  I am hooked and go about 4x/week on top of regular workouts at the gym.
