Thanks for posting!! We leave to go to Secrets Maroma Beach in 2 weeks!  That mexican themed night looks like so much fun!  Any specific reason they did that while you were there?  Or do they do it often?  I am so excited, I love reading recaps of Secrets Maroma!  Any other suggestions ?

@Coleerenee: Thanks for the tips!  Definitely a good suggestion on not bringing towels as that will save a lot of room.  Did you buy sunscreen at the resort?  I’m so focused on last minute wedding planning that we haven’t even thought much about the honeymoon..but we need to start packing asap since we are headed to South Florida in less than a week to begin our wedding festivities!  So anymore tips would be greatly appreciated πŸ™‚

Do you mind sharing how much you paid for your trip? I’m looking for a honeymoon since we still haven’t booked anything. How was the ride from the airport?

@Coleerenee: This is so helpful THANK YOU! I’ve been obsessed with finding the perfect honeymoon spot and this is in my top 4 choices. I was a little weary because Fiance and I have never been to an all inclusive and I was worried the food would be just “meh”. What types of activites did you guys do during the day? I can lay around the pool and ocean all day every day but Fiance will die of boredom so we want to do some activites throughout the week we will be there. Did you find the hotel to have options I know in a previous post you said it’s a 50.00 cab ride to the nearest town- did you guys leave the resort much? If so what did you do and did you feel safe? Sorry so many questions! My Future Mother-In-Law has been driving me nuts saying Mexico won’t be safe blah blah, but since we are in California and our wedding is in Sept and we are only taking a week off I feel like Mexico or Hawaii will be our best options with our time and budget.

@srobinson: i thought id respond since i was just there a few weeks ago too! the nearest town is playa del carmen and its a 22 dollar cab ride. theres shopping and awesome restaurants and beach of course.  if you want to go to cozumel or cancun its a bit farther.  we did ziplining (the company was called selvatica) and it was ahhhhmazing!!! i highly recommend them!!! we had a blast. we meant to do more but once we got on that beach there was no turning back.  the resort has shows in their theater almost every night… its stuff like “american idol” and a “couples gameshow” and “carribean dancers”… we thouroughly enjoyed every show we went to πŸ™‚ theres also a dance club called desires but we never made it there.

oh and there are a million different excursions to keep your so busy πŸ™‚ they have kayaking and beach volleyball and soccer right on the beach too!! we felt completely safe there even off of the resort… i think the media plays up the troubles mexico has but i never felt unsafe… ever! i also second the food! it was fantastic!!!! we had a swim out room (where the pool is right out your patio)… it was worth every penny in my opinion!! we were in that thing all the time!!! πŸ™‚

…. and someone asked about towels… dont bring em! there are tons of beach towels by the pool and at the beach. you wont need your own.

sorry for threadjacking!! i just cant say enough about how amazing our honeymoon was!

In further reply to the sunscreen question.  It is very expensive in the gift shop!  20 american bucks to be exact!  We ran out and had to buy more there (my hubby goes overboard  lol).

Also I would recommend bringing like $100 in one dollar bills (we stayed a week).  You will need small bills to tip everyone.  We didn’t bring many so we constantly had to make trips to the prefered club to get small change.  We generally tipped $1 every time we were served a drink on the beach/by the pool, about $5 each for our transfers to/from the airport, $4-5 at dinner, and $2-3 at breakfast (world cafe)….
