We just had our wedding and honeymoon at Secrets Wild Orchid in Jamaica.  AMAZING time.  We stayed in the preferred club which gets you lots of upgrades:  better room service menu, liquor and a stocked fridge every day in your room (and snacks), free WiFi and a huge spread (food and drinks) in the lobby everyday.  You also have your own pool and private beach for the preferred members as well as a soaking tub on your deck!

Overall the food was great – the drinks were good too.  There was lots of activities to do each day on the resort if you were interested in them and they had nightly entertainment too.

I was disappointed a bit in that we spent $$$$ for the trip itself and the wedding and I didnt feel overly special – like we got there over an hour late – almost two hours late and our room wasnt ready and it was barely ready two hours later.  Their wedding team made me 20 minutes late for the ceremony (not that this would apply to you – but I was still peeved).

I had talked to two other couples that stayed at Secrets Maroma (Mexico) and they have a blast there too.

We opted away from Sandals in Monetgo Bay as I didnt hear very good things about the resort there – but too each their own!  So I vote for Secrets!!  Let me know if I can answer anything else for you!

I haven’t been to either… yet.

We spoke to several travel agents and every one of them told us that Sandals are ‘overpriced’ because you are paying for the name brand.  We ended  up booking two weeks at a Secrets resort for less than one week at a Sandals resort.  But then again we didn’t want the personal butler and swim-up rooms that some Sandals resorts offer.  We wanted to spend our money on excursions and day trips rather than spend more money on the resort.

@Bee27 – Yeah! Everyone at the resort – guests and staff – were super nice!! We even had total strangers asking to take our picture on our wedding day!! It was such an amazing experience!

We were just debating over sandals and secrets and decided on secrets wild orchid, the main factor was the sandals in Jamaica did not include room service in a standard room. We definitely wanted the room service!

@Missloveknot – are you staying in the preferred club?? Hubby and I did while our guests stayed in the non-preferred and room service and the room service menu are better on the preferred side at least for breakfast anyway. We had omelets everyday!!

@kristiew417:  We haven’t decided, I have been all over trip advisor trying to figure out if it’s worth it. Any advice would be appreciated!

I compared Sandals price with the reviews they were getting on TripAdvisor and it doesn’t seem like they were THAT spectacular and worth the price tag. I’m going to go with an adults-only all inclusive that’s on the higher end price range, and it may not necessarily be Secrets (they are well rated in Jamaica I think).
