I have a VERY religious mother and I am marrying and very non-religious individual (I am also not very religious). We have agreed to an Episcopal wedding (really to make my mother happy).. my uncle is an actor and he is reading several poetry selections. Now, my mother wants him to read something from the Bible… I have an Episcopal priest.. do I have to agree to having our uncle (who is not religious) reading Bible selections?

I am both secular and non-secular read. I am having the Art of Marriage Poem, 1st Cor, and a Nikki Giovanni poem read. My grandma, who is 91, will Bless our marriage.
I believe since you are already getting married in the Church and will have readings from the Bible, I suggest you find a reading that a little more modern that discusses Love and Marriage. I loved the Art of Marriage which was read @ Paul and Joanne Newman’s Las Vegas wedding.

I think you can do whatever you want…but if you already agreed to getting married in a church, then it seems likely to me that they will *require* the readings to be from the Bible. (especially in a church that has an official “liturgy,” like the epsicopal church.)
