@pinkzebra:   Sorry if I’m asking a dumb question, what’s a Guard Card?

@pinkzebra:  Thanks for the explanation, I’ve never heard of that.  If it’s a good career move for him it might be worth a $200 investment.

I think he might have a grander idea of what the security guard field is like than it really is.

@pinkzebra:  Sounds like a good investment then. Also, do you guys have CLEET certifications or is that like Guard Card?

One of my friends does security, but honestly he doesn’t make very good money.  He works at a mall though.  What kind of security does your husband want to get into?

@strawbs:  Ahaha, funny story?

I grew up going to the skateing rink a lot as a kid, and they had a security guard. Well we all called him Rentacop (not in a mean way). Well about 6 months ago I saw him again and I yelled “Hey rentacop!” and he turned around…and I then noticed he had our PD uniform on! Of course he had to play at “arresting” me for “calling an officer of the law names”. We shared a coffee after that. It was pretty cool.

No that has nothing to do with this thread but…I wanted to share lol

@pinkzebra:  oh I didn’t mean to say there was something wrong with wanting to go into security, but I pointed it out because I saw you said that he’s tried a lot of jobs trying to figure out what he likes.

For my job, I have to hire a lot of security officers all over the country. I would say that 99.9% of their job is standing/sitting in one place observing but otherwise doing absolutly nothing.

Just last week, I had to hire overnight security to sit in a parking lot all night to watch a display we put up. It was cold, dark, there was no one around, and they had to sit by themselves for 12 hours.

It’s a nobel and necessary profession, but if he’s looking for action and excitement, security is probably not going to keep his interest very long.
