It was tough but I gave in and let Fiance choose the table numbers. When he told me he thought Mario would be cool I pretty much laughed in his face and told him to keep dreaming. There was no way I could possibly have Mario table numbers with a “fall-a-palooza” theme. He pouted a bit and told me to just pick whatever I wanted so then I felt bad. This whole wedding is entirely me and what I wanted, the poor guy doesn’t have much to claim as his own. While he likes everything I’ve done, there’s not much of FI’s personality mixed in.
Well, he found the Mario font and did a mock-up and I have to say, I kinda liked it. Is it cohesive in the slightest? Absolutely not, but I don’t think it has to be. What’s more important is that he’s really diggin’ it and I love that.
We decided to spruce up the VIP tables sign (which is for us and our parents/siblings) but keep the others with just the plain number. I don’t have any pictures of those yet since I don’t have the frames painted but here’s an idea of our table number/menu…
Don’t mind the horribly painted frame. I’ve since established that spray painting is just not my thing so we’re going to outsource the job to FI’s parents. 🙂
Did you end up compromising on any of your decor aspects to appease your FI?

Ok guys, is the Mario table number really that bad? I just sent my mom the picture and she’s gone completely crazy. Even so far as to quote NICK LACHEY! The Mario numbers aren’t what I would have picked but Fiance really likes them which makes me like them. I know it’s ultimately our decision but are these sooo bad that our guests will making fun of us for years to come? lol
Here’s what the other table numbers will look like…

I think they’re pretty awesome, actually. A little out of place, but the rad factor makes it okay imo.

How come table 1 gets a mushroom and table 5 doesn’t? I’d be mad if my table didn’t get a shroom!

I think it’s awesome.. I’m also a big Mario/Nintendo nut 😉 I like how in the first pic, you have the number with the mushroom; would you consider having a different (or even a choice of three or something) icon for each table, so it makes a little more sense to people who aren’t as Mario-incilned? You could do the mushroom, the star, the flower, etc. Just a thought! Point is: I think it’s cool :))

I love the 1 with the mushroom. But without the mushroom or other mario type character, I’d sort of think the 5 was just oddly pixelated. Even after alllll those hours of mario game play, I’m not sure I’d see it.

I have to say that although it doesn’t fit your theme entirely, I do think you did the right thing by giving in and letting your FH have a part in the decor. In the end, they’re just table numbers. I think that although some may not “get it”, it’s about you and him.
Also, just my 2 cents, I think you should put the mushroom on all the numbers, the color works, and mushrooms would “technically” fit with fall theme! Other options could be to do other Mario items, like the flower, the mushroom, the leaf (from Mario 3), a shell. You could even go a little further and do the various Mario’s, and some of the bad guys like the Gombas. LOL, I’m a little partial to the theme since Mr. M and I are having a Mario themed cake 🙂 Good luck!!!
As I was writing this, another small thought popped into my mind, you mentioned about that he really hasn’t had much input into the wedding thus far. What if you surprised him with a small tv set up in a corner away from the majority of the reception area w/ a wii and Mario games? It could be a great photo op. and it would also give kids, (and groomsmen) something to do during “down time”.

Sure, it’s definitely not fall-themed, but it’s pretty adorable that he came up with that on his own. I think you’ll look back on it in years to come and think it’s cute because it’s a reminder of his personality and something he is really into. Go for it! If I saw it at a wedding, I would think it was really cute.

I like it. I agree with the PP who said to have a different icon or character for each table. Our tables are named for places/characters in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. So I guess the nerdiness appeals to me. 🙂

I love the icon + table number. This made my inner geek extremely happy. And as a guest, this would be a really awesome thing that would seem like a very personal touch by the couple.
But then, I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate something related to Doctor Who into our vintage train station wedding. Perhaps bow ties are in order.

I honestly don’t remember any table numbers of weddings I have been to. I think they are cool!

Thanks for the feedback! I decided to take your suggestions and add a character to each number. You were right. Just the number alone may get missed and our guests would think “wow, those are ugly numbers” and not even catch the corelation to Mario. I’m pretty happy with how they came out. 🙂
Check it ouuuut…
The opposite side is still the same menu.

Thanks! FI’s totally lovin’ ’em!
