New here, so sorry if I make any missteps in etiquette. Posted on Reddit but want a bigger sample size in my audience so I figure it can’t hurt to ask the Bee! I’m designing a ring with MoissaniteCo. It’s based off the sol310 stock setting, but modified to have a six prong head. Due to the extra prongs as opposed to the four prong it normally has, the head had to be raised a bit to accommodate the bezel set peekaboo on either side of the cathedral. I’ve been advised that 8.20 is VERY high, and it might be difficult to wear. The stone is 7mm, so not huge, but still. I’m also a bit wary of the 2.5mm band, it seems on the thicker side for a 4.5 size finger. What do you all think? Any advice? I’d love to hear from bees who have high set rings, preferably at least 8mm, and how wearing them tends to feel. Thank you in advance!

Beautiful ring!
I have what I think is considered a more high-set ring, but I have no idea how many mm it is? I took a pic of it next to measuring tape (inches though!) to see if it would help. It’s over a quarter of an inch tall, but less than half?

I very rarely hit my ring on anything or notice that it’s very tall 🙂 When I first got it, I was a lot more “aware” of it being there, and how high it was off my finger. But now? I don’t even notice it!
I think once you’re used to wearing it, you’ll be fine! But again, I really don’t know how many mm tall my ring is compared to yours, just that it’s also on the tall side and I haven’t had any issues with it!

I am not sure how many mm this is high but it is SUPER high, I never had any issues when I wore it and actually loved how high it was. I don’t own this ring anymore I gave it to my sister so I can’t measure it now but I’m sure you can see how high it is. This ring was poor quality made from a Chinese vendor, recommended on here, so I didn’t wear it much. The stones were rough and the way they were set looked and felt like a zipper….if that makes sense. Also the moissy was a 4ct and was only supposed to be a 2ct. They really were way off on this one….I did get a refund though and got to keep the ring!
I think you will be fine with the height of your ring and the more you wear it you’ll get used to being careful not to knock it. The changes you made to the ring are stunning…I prefer it over the 4 prong. I hope this helps and please share pics when your ring is done and on your finger 💍

citizenerased14 : Thank you for your response, and your ring is lovely! I love the rose and leaf motif! Also, just FYI, the other side of the ruler is the millimeter side. 😉 Looks like yours might be 8mm or so, too. That helps, to know you haven’t had issues with wearing it despite the high setting.

erinebee1 : Thank you for replying! It’s a shame that ring wasn’t what you asked for, it really does look pretty! I’m not sure how in the world someone confused a 4 carat for a 2…but hey, at least it wound up being free! Who made it, if you don’t mind specifying? You can also message me privately if you’re not comfortable posting in a comment.
And thanks! I agree, it looks really great as a six prong. I wasn’t sure until I received the CAD, but I really like this. I wanted six prongs to avoid squaring off the round cut moissanite, although I love four prongs when viewed from the profile because it shows off so much of the stone. I hope the extra prongs don’t cover up too much of my stone, but I like the security of the six prongs and the more hexagonal aerial view.

schmeebee85 :

yeah I was so excited for this ring and waited for it to be made and when it arrived it was a huge let down. I scoured the eBay moissanite boards and saw this seller, Blueworld5, was highly recommended so I took a chance. This is the listing and original pic of the ring and also it was missing several stones, that I had to have replaced locally, when it arrived. The ring was pretty from a distance and a mess up close lol but I loved how high it was and if the moissy would’ve been the correct size I probably would’ve kept and worn it but that stone was huge! It was a 10mm which is 4ct…..crazy I know! Anyways thanks for responding and I truly hope you live your ring when you get it!

erinebee1 : I don’t blame you, I can’t imagine wearing a ring with a 4 carat stone every day. I’d be knuckle dragging!
