I feel completely alone in what I want from a dress! See, the number one criterion I have for my dress is: no lace, no beading, no embellishment of any kind.
I know, that sounds crazy, right? But I’m completely in love with dresses that are minimalist yet over the top. My dream dress starts with a sheath with sleeves and attached cape, like this:
But adjusts the neckline further down off the shoulder, more like this:
And I want the cape itself to come around further in the front for a semicircle effect, like:
What’s more, I want it in a neoprene or ponte knit fabric, totally matte. I know this is a HIGHLY unusual dress. How do I know? Well, THE SHOP has nothing even remotely similar to the fabric I want and wanted to make my dress out of satin. Boo.
So I’m hoping some bees can PM me with info on a shop that would make the kind of thing I’m interested in and make it well. Any ideas? Ideally I’d find a shop that would actually reduce the cost because it won’t require any fancy beadwork, expensive lace fabric, et cetera. So many people post photos of dresses with amazing looking, beautiful lace, but that’s just not me, and I worry a dress shop that does that kind of thing amazingly might not do something like I’m thinking about with the same level of quality. Help! I need to get on this stuff soon!

The first and last dresses are wonderful – I do hope you are lucky in finding a seamstress !
I don’t know that a bridal focussed shop would be the way to go actually, as what you are wanting is so different than the more usually embellished wedding dress. A good dressmaker might be the way to go.

If you go to the replica threads, someone will be able to tell you the name of the SHOP that they all use.
Though I think it is something a good local dressmaker will be able to make – and probably needs to be done locally because such styles need to fit perfectly. The quality is in the fabric and the fitting.

It doesn’t sound crazy at all! I can picture your dress perfectly and I think it will be stunning. Good luck making it happen – I’m sure there must be a way. 🙂

Very, unique but beautiful. I’d recommend that you go to Etsy, there are a lot of shops there that will make a custom dress for you. I know LaceMarry does (I’m inquring her about my reception dress now). There are plenty of shops on Etsy that will do this dress, and you may get it done for a good deal as well.

I agree with the PPs that a non bridal local seamstress would be best. Also as an amateur seamstress I would advise against neoprene because it’s not breathable and in my opinion would be too stiff even if it was a small mm thickness. Pointe knit is a great option that offers stretch and a heavy drape. If you want something with more drape and less stretch like the Solange dress, take a look at some silk crepes. Either would make gorgeous dresses. I would be concerned with a full length pointe knit cape because the weight would stretch the fabric down and affect the drape.
