I usually use tan towels (or L’oreal’s version of the same). They work great, don’t smell bad, and usually don’t streak (except I have difficulty in the wrist/ankle area). I also like Victoria’s secret tanning lotion. It has a bronzer in it so that you can see where you’ve applied, and it smells great.

I’m getting an airbrush tan for the wedding, though. Too much of a risk to do it myself for the wedding. I want it to be perfect.

I went and got an airbrush tan today for my first time ever. I have spray tanned in the past, but this is a little different bc it’s done by another person and they can really even it out and make it look more natural. The guy that did mine used to paint cars and he did a great job.lol He has a lot of experience doing the airbrush tanning so that helps I think.

Of course it isn’t natural, so it won’t look completely natural but hey, no skin cancer or wrinkles, so that is a huge bonus and I still get my tan skin. It’s immediate and I love that. It looks a little too bronze right now, but the bronze will wash off in the shower in the morning and look more natural.

I think the color looks natural. My Fiance also said it looks natural. I like it and will do it again.

I know you asked about lotions, but don’t have anything to offer on that. I tried them years ago and it left me with streaks.

I like banana boat summer color. The lotion is pretty inexpensive, smells good, and works well for me. There is a spray type too, but it smells kind of weird and leaves you feeling tacky for quite a while afterwards. It’s super fast to apply though so I use it anyways sometimes. It’s good for your back and other areas you can’t reach too I suppose!

I had NEVER used a self-tanner until a couple of weeks ago, and so far I have LOVED the one I bought.  It’s called Fake Bake Flawless.  The link is to Amazon if you want to read the reviews, they’re very good!

It’s not a lotion though, you spray it onto a mitt and kind of buff it onto your skin.  It smells good, like coconut.  I am also very pale and it gave me a very natural looking tan, doesn’t look orange at all.  No streaking either, it looks very even.

I’m glad I found this thread. I just put Jergens self-tanner on and it seriously smells wretched. I’ll have to look for the Victoria’s Secret or order the Fake Bake from Amazon.

@gogogiraffes:  I just did a trial airbrush tan for the first time.  I’d recommend doing it 2 days before the wedding – so if you’re getting married on a saturday, go on a thursday.  and do what they tell you to do.  they told me to wash it off after 6 hours and to NOT sleep with it on.  she said not to use any kind of washcloth or loofah, just my hands and soap (no Dove products!)  Most of the “orange” comes off in that first shower.  The next morning I showered again (but still didn’t use the washcloth or loofah).  I was REALLY tan the second day (Friday).  When I do this again before my wedding, I will definitely use a washcloth so I am not AS tan.  By Saturday/Sunday, my skin looked bronze, even, and fairly naturally tan – at least, everyone said it looked really good.  I had my bridal shower that Sunday so i have a ton of pics and I am happy with how I look in them.  But I’d try an airbrush tan about at least a month before the wedding.  I’ve used self tanners – lotions and wipes in the past…… I ended up with orange hands once, and it would get stuck in weird places – like in my cuticles or between my fingers or where my hand meets my wrist.  The towels never really did much for me at all….. and despite what they say, they ALL stink!!!  And with the lotions, you literally can smell them for days!  I hate that smell!  OH – and I forgot to mention – it did not rub off on my clothes (after I showered at least).  I wore an ivory dress to my shower and had absolutely no problems!  Good luck with whichever route you choose!

After reading rave reviews on St.Tropez self tanner I tried it…annnd…it really is amazing.  Even in the areas where I didn’t put it on evenly it hardly is noticeable that I goofed up.  It has the MOST natural tan color that I’ve ever seen…annnnndd it actually almost has a good smell…Fiance actually said I smelled good believe it or not.  It is expensive, however I highly recommend!

@gogogiraffes:  I would just bring a backup (like the tan towels or a tanning lotion) to touch yourself up during the vacation.

I’m very pale and irish/german also.
After doing a ton of research and reading a bunch of reviews, I went out a few days ago and bought Banana Boat Summer Color Deep Dark Tan.
It works soo good. I put it on after my shower and it showed right away.
I used it Monday and its now Thursday and I still have my nice tan.
People at work have asked me if I went tanning. I told them I’ve been using self tanner and doing it the healthy way.
No streaks and I’m not orange   =)

@gogogiraffes:  Tell the people at the airbrush tanning place you go to about the waxing and see what they say.  I know where i went I had to show up completely shaved and exfoliated – but I had to have shaved at least 6 hours before….. and no manicures or pedicures after an airbrush tan – you CAN do polish changes, they just don’t want you to soak your fingers or feet after the airbrush tan is on.

It’s definitely an experience.  I mean, you can wear as little or as much as you want, but it’s quite interesting standing naked in front of someone you just met in these silly poses while they spray you with cold mist.  I’m sure they’re used to it, but it was definitely a little awkward the first time I did it!

By The Way, one of my friends swears by the St. Tropez as well – she says it’s amazing – I just wanted to have someone else do it professionally for me.  🙂

@gogogiraffes:  Def don’t do the airbrush the day of!! You can do it days before. It won’t rub off after the first day and a shower.
