The one I used with GREAT success last summer…or maybe the summer before…was TanTowel.  It looks like this, and is sold at Sephora (and I’m sure other places online):

The other one I use is Jergen’s like…”results in one day” one, but if you hated the smell then I guess that’s out.  I always get the color that’s for medium to dark even though I am “light to medium” because I’ve found the lighter ones don’t work.

It sounds like you’re buying barbeque sauce, but I have to say that Famous Dave’s Moisture Tan is the best out there . . . and I’ve pretty much used it all (my mom’s a dermatologist and she gives me samples of EVERYTHING).

I buy mine on eBay but it’s a true brown, not orange, and the smell is VERY mild compared to the horrible stench of Jergens, L’Oreal, or Neutrogena.

I’ve used L’Oreal Sublime Bronze towelettes. I really liked them! They are super easy. The color was really natural looking, and didn’t come off as orange. It was just noticeable enough to tell that you had color, and not like you just put a whole bunch of fake tanner on, and it didn’t look streaky.

I’ve also used the Bare Esentuals Faux Tan. I liked to use gloves since it was a lotion. But it didn’t have a gross smell, and the color was really natural! it can get streaky if its not blended well enough, but I think that’s true with any tanning lotion.

Charlotte Ronson- Gradual Tanning Lotion, it’s great and it’s on sale now at Sephora! It smells good too!

I’ve tried L’oreal sublime and that works pretty good, but it can be streaky sometimes. I’ve also used the Victoria’s secret self tanner last summer and it worked really well. No streaks at all. I’m going to use a gradual tanner lotion a few weeks before my wedding and then use a self tanner a few days before.

@MrsBeck:  I tried Jergens Natural Glow tanning lotion on multiple occasions a few years back and it made me SUPER splotchy! I haven’t used any others since. Just beware of that kind.. 🙁

@MrsBeck:  Yeah, I do. There’s a little card that comes with the bottle that tells you how many pumps (generally speaking) an average-sized person will need for each body part. I think the face is like 1/2 a pump or something. Legs, for example, are like 1.5 pumps per leg or whatever. It’s helpful!

@MrsBeck:  I thought it was the application at first until I tried it multiple times and in different ways. Glad I’m not the only one with the problem. Yikes!
