@NeonNoodle:  Yes, I am getting married in PA in a self uniting ceremony but we are having a friend “officiate.” How did you do it?

Can you describe the process? Sounds interesting. Did you have an officicient and ceremony?

@NeonNoodle:  Hello! I just found out about this option and am ridiculously excited about it! Did you have any trouble with getting your license? I’m a bit anxious because most of the information I can find online is fairly outdated, and I can’t find anything on any official websites. I’m in Allegheny County, by the way. Thanks!

@NeonNoodle:  I’m so glad I found your post as we’re planning on doing the same thing! Would you also be able to share your ceremony layout with me and any sources you used for inspiration (you mentioned a book and wikipedia)?

As you said; it’s hard to find sources for help with ideas. I was planning on having a friend ‘officiate’ but now I’m leaning more twoards what you described. i.e. Fiance and I do part of the reading, maybe a couple of readings from friends, and maybe 2 others officiating. But in my mind it’s all a mess …so any help with your layout would be amazing!

thanks so much!

@NeonNoodle:  Thank you SO much for this thread! You’re right, everything available is completely outdated. So glad to hear you had no problems in Montgomery County – that’ll be our backup if Berks gives us any trouble. At least on their website they say self-uniting marriages are available as long as you say so up front, but you never know who you’re going to get behind the desk that day.
