@jbbs1222:   how this works is NOT that they clear your bank account out or even that they learn the details of it in a way that can compromise it. You will not lose “everything you have” but you will lose the value of the goods you are selling and the amount you have given them over and above the purchase price.

What happens is that their cheque will not be honoured but you will not discover this until too late. Here’s a couple of links that explain it. One is relevant to UK bees, the other US. But the practice is the same wherever you live:

I wonder if you can just cash a check like that and not send the rest back. You know….beat them at their own game? I would donate it to charity to make sure my karma didn’t suffer, but I still wonder.
