I was trying to figure out whether to post this in the classified or in the boards.
I’m not sure if any other sellers have been getting this type of email, but I wanted to give you a heads up.
I’ve been trying to sell my used wedding gown in various sites like craigslist, preowned, and weddingbee. I’m sure there are alot of you out there selling high end items as well.
Late last week, I received a reply from someone through weddingbee inquiring about my gown. It was a reply weird email because
1. she didn’t ask me anything about the gown
2. she refused using paypal (even after I stated I would only accept paypal) and wanted to send a cashier’s check
3. she refused using USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc. She wanted to use her own delivery service
I decided that I wasn’t interested in selling to her, and am crossing my fingers that someone legit would like to buy my gown.
After doing a google search, I found out that there are people out there trying to scam you of your item. By the time you mailed the item out, your bank would tell you that the check/cashier’s check is a fake. By using "their" delivery service, you have no paper trail to track this person down.
Basically if it doesn’t sound right, trust your instincts.
Best of luck selling your items!
