I need to sell my engagement ring from my previous engagement because I’m about to be engaged to someone else.
I’ve tried craigslist and the local classifieds, but since I’m in the middle of nowhere Wyoming, in a college town, all I got were a bunch of scammers who want to do “Paypal” and have me ship it. I took it to a pawn shop and they offered me 300 dollars for it (It’s a $3000 dollar setting). 🙁
It’s a Love Story collection ring, and t’s still under warranty from the place my ex purchased it from, but they won’t give credit for it or purchase it back as pre-owned. It’s from a chain store that is in many western states. Will other stores take it and give credit towards another ring for it?
Has anyone been in this position? I need help! Anything? Anyone?

I would just be really careful about reselling a ring.
In MANY, many states, the ring actually legally belongs to the person who purchased it (in this case, your ex-FI) until AFTER the wedding, at which time it then belongs to the wife.
So if you guys never got married, it might still technically be his property and he could come back and sue you for the price of the ring if you fail to return it to him.
If you’re in the clear on that, I hope you find better luck selling it. You might have more luck getting credit on another ring for it if you try to purchase a ring from a local jeweler instead of a chain store.

@katie90: Kay Jewelers will let you use any diamond ring no matter what store it was purchased at as trade in towards the purchase of another diamond. You have to purchase something double the value of the ring you’re trading in though.
In fact all of these stores will do that:

You could sell it on diamond bistro, I do now I don’t, or even try the classifieds here. You probably won’t get near as much as it’s “worth” because that’s how it goes when you resell. Maybe 50-70%. Good luck!

Sadly, diamonds do not have good resale. I would try listing it for 45% of the retail cost on ebay and see what happens.

@rachelmichelle: I checked that out actually My cousin is a lawyer and in the states of Wyoming and Idaho (Where we lived/where engagment took place) it’s legal for me to keep it. I tried to give it back on multiple occasions, but he told me to sell it when I needed to.
Thank you for the heads up though! I really appreciate it (:

Thank you lovely ladies for these suggestions! You’re the best! I realize it’s kind of like a car, as soon as it’s off the lot it depreciates… but it’s beautiful and deserves to be worn or used again to make something else that’s beautiful.
I’m going to look into all of these!
