rockclimberbride :  I am keeping mine but will get it professionally cleaned and stored in a special storage box that keeps it “fresh”.  I got my dress from Kleinfeld and they have a cleaning and repair service that I plan on taking advantage of.

midgy86 :  I don’t mean this in a snarky way, but what do you plan to do with it once it is cleaned and stored? Do you think you will pass it on to a daughter or display it? I am highly sentimental so I think I would have such a hard time parting with my dress, but I just don’t know what I’d actually DO with it if I keep it!

My dress is being repurposed into a party/cocktail dress I can wear on our anniversary. I had planned to sell, but couldn’t part with it after the wedding was over. However, it made no sense to put away to never use again. The alterations are being done by the same seamstress who altered it for my wedding. I pick it up next week – I’m very excited!

psyche1978 :  What a great idea! I totally want to do this now. Will you show pics once you get it?

rockclimberbride :   yep sold it, and couldn’t be happier!

After I dry cleaned it, it sat in my closet for ~1.5 years. When it was time to move from our apartment I didn’t want to move it and store it in the next place. I found a wedding store selling secondhand dresses and they accepted it. I had bought it online (preownedweddingdresses.com) from another bride for ~$750 and ended up getting $400 for it (the consignement store gets 50% of the sale and they sold it for $800). I didn’t want to bother selling it online, although if you wanted to there are many many websites available.

I had mine cleaned and boxed. It’s been sitting untouched for 2 years now.  My sentimentalness is currently winning over my practicality!

Right now, I’m planning to get mine cleaned and then take wedding pictures again on our anniversary next year. There were a lot of pics that we didn’t get and I would really like to have them. After that, I am going to get it preserved and hold onto it. I doubt anyone in my family will ever want to wear it l, but I would totally let them.

I have thought about what to do with mine too. Right now it’s actually sitting in my mom’s closet and I surprisingly don’t have that much attachment to it. I’m usually very sentimental with things like that but for some reason I’m not with it. If I have a daughter (one day I hope) I think I will use the material to have a dress made for her as a little girl that can be passed down or I can keep. If not it will probably just sit in the closet.

ceecee123 :  Hi I honestly do not know lol I am a sentimental person so I do have an attachment to it but I don’t think id be heartbroken if I sold it either.  I guess I want to preserve it until I DO know what to do with it.

I sold mine after my divorce. Before that point, it just sat in a closet, preserved in a box, untouched and unlooked at for years. I sold it through Facebook Marketplace to a very sweet girl who lives in my area.

I had mine professionally cleaned and boxed; but got it out last year for our 5 year anniversary and took photos of my daughter (6 months) in it; thinking of doing it again maybe in another 5 and 10 years? I don’t expect her to actually wear it someday, but watching her grow in it will be cute.

I also love the idea of repurposing it into a baptism dress or first communion dress.
