Yes, odd question. LOL
A while ago my mom and I went out shopping at one of my favorite stores, and there was a really sexy dress that I liked, and she offered to buy it for me. I never wore it because I needed to get the straps altered, so it was sitting in my closet for a while. The other day I tried it on and it seems to fit me a little better. But my taste has changed since she bought it- it’s as short as my butt, very tight and metallic, and shows major cleavage. I showed SO, and he said he wouldn’t feel comfortable having me walk around in it either.
I feel bad because my mom was so nice to get it for me (she’s obviously quite liberal about how I dress) but I also know she always wished I dressed more conservatively- which I’m doing more as I get older. Would it be wrong to sell it? It still has the tags and it’s a popular brand so I’d get a good amount of money.
Maybe I could sell it, then use that $$ to get my mom a great mothers day gift?

@embarrassed99: Ummm if it’s as short as your butt I’m sure you mom would understand. That sounds awfully short! Is there anyway it could be worn as a tunic with dress pants? Just a thought?
Is it past the date of return or exchange? Many stores will still offer an exchange if the tags are still on it!

My mom sounds like your mom: she hasnt seemed to notice that 90% of the time I’m fully covered in something black, not something too over-the-top. I think my mom buys me stuff SHE’D like to wear if she was my age. I simply tuck it away somewhere until I find it again a year later. I’ll usually ask her if she likes it or wants it…and she says yes, since she’s completely forgotten that SHE bought me it in the first place!

I definitely think that if you sell it and use the money to buy your mom a nice Mother’s Day gift then that evens things out. 🙂

I actually loved it when i first saw it but my taste has changed so much- and SO no longer likes me showing tons of skin. We met young and he loved me looking like a trophy girlfriend, but now he wants me to present myself in a more classy way (and I agree). Back when we bought the dress, it was right up my alley! Now, not so much.

No, it’s a tight bandage dress and definitely meant to be worn alone. It’s actually quite pretty, just a bit too revealing for me.
