@MrsOats:  Actually, waiting the max amount of time will increase the amount of dead sperm that will be seen (said my RE). He said three days would be the very best, optimal amount of times. So BD Sunday, submit the test Wednesday.

ETA: I know he wants to wait the max time for drive purposes, but if he wants the most accurate SA, then I’d say try to get it in closer to the 2-4 days time and not 5 days time. Good luck!

If you have sex on Sunday, it means you need to schedule the test for Tuesday – Friday.

If you had sex Yesterday, I would at the max go in Thursday. I agree more with @ChuckNorris:  and it is true that the longer you abstain, the more harmful it is to the sperm and your motility numbers decrease. I think 2 or 3 days is best.

Good luck!

@MrsOats:  Our doc suggested 3-4 days. So if you BD on Sunday, have the analysis done Wed/Thurs

@MrsOats:  Oh I see. I would say Friday then, but if he can, I would still try for Thursday. Worst case scenario he can then return the next day.

@MrsOats:  hi! i actually work as an andrology tech at a fertility clinic and perform semen analysis on a daily basis. You definitely want to try to get it done around 2-3 days. 5 days is still okay, but there will be an abundance of non-motile sperm present which doesn’t accurately show what the normal motility % of the sample would be. In contrast, if you only wait 1 day, there may be a low concentration of sperm present which is also not very accurate. Hope this helps!!

@MrsOats:  between 30 mins-1 hour for accurate motility. Be sure to keep the cup warm while in transit to the clinic!! sometimes i recieve sample cups that are freezing cold and while they are still motile, there is no way to tell if the % of motile sperm should have been greater. you should be fine if you can get there within the hour and you keep your cup warm! hope that helps!

@MrsOats:  the way it works at my job is you tell the front desk you are dropping off a sample. They should be expecting you if you are on the schedule for a certain day. Bring it in a brown paper bag, and they should have a drop off window to the lab which they will show you. no need to be embarrassed!! this is the way it works at least at my job!
