- Wedding: February 2012
My Fiance and I just became recently engaged, about 2 weeks ago.
Before he proposed, we’d always said we’d want to do a destination wedding. Well actually we’d love to elope, but our parents would be very hurt, so this is our compromise.
My Fiance is also in the military and currently stationed overseas. I was visiting him when he proposed; he’s due to leave his current posting in February time frame and post to the US. At the time of the proposal, we didn’t know yet where he’d be stationed.
We’ve just got news that he’ll be stationed in Hawaii, which we’re obviously super excited about and makes for a perfect “destination” location! We’ll be moving there sometime in March and planning to get married in June.
Here’s my dilemma: we need to plan out some details before we get there, particularly the venue, as we’d like to let our guests know as soon as possible so they can plan accordingly. Yet as we’ll be moving there in the semi-near future, I’d like for us to leave some planning upon our arrival as well, so we can visit places, meet with vendors, etc.
My primary questions are:
- If you had a destination wedding, what tools/resources did you use to select your venue? Would you have done anything different? Google so far seems a bit overwhelming!
- If you’ve been to Hawaii specifically, do you have any recommendations/suggestions for locations?
- For those who didn’t do destinations, which things do you feel are safe to leave for planning until about 3 months out?
Thanks all for any tips, I appreciate it!
