I’m getting married in Charleston, SC (where I’m from), but currently live in DC. This might be a silly question, but where do I go wedding dress shopping: in Charleston or in DC? I was thinking about it, and I feel like Charleston would make sense because then I wouldn’t have to transport the dress (I will most likely be driving) and can just schedule my fittings around when I’m visiting. But obviously, DC is a little more convenient since it’s where I currently live. For those of you who have been in the same situation, what did you do?

Which area would be easier for your entourage to shop with you if you are shopping with friends or family? Another thing to consider is sales tax! I bought my dress in NYC but had it shipped out of state to my home so that I didn’t have to pay any sales tax. It might be easier to do it where you live so that the dress will be local if you need to have fittings or any alterations.

I got married in Colorado but bought my dress in Idaho because that’s where my mom and Maid/Matron of Honor live. Transporting the dress was easy and would have been even easier if I was driving (I flew). I would buy your dress where you live.

mrscsoontobee : I didn’t even think about sales tax! Good call!! My sister lives near me and my mom lives in SC (and my best friend has to fly regardless), so I don’t think one location will be more convenient for folks than the other.
hikingbride : Yea, I still may fly, but am just worried about not having enough room if we drive. Thanks for the advice!
