I’d wait. I don’t know what sort of prices you have in mind for a semi-upgrade vs. the bigger upgrade but if you skip the semi-upgrade, you’ll be able to afford the big upgrade sooner.
In other words.. I’m just arbitrarily picking prices. If the ring you really want would be $2000 and the semi-upgrade ring would be $700, it makes more sense to apply the $700 you’d have spent on the semi-upgrade ring towards the dream ring.

Oh for goodness sake girl, what a beautiful, sparkly engagement ring! I don’t believe in ‘upgrades’ , let alone ‘semi upgrades’ because l think the ring he proposed with and the ring you marry with are THE rings just as they are. New and different rings you also wear on that or any finger, fine, no problem .
l agree with a pp who said it would be good if you can politely disregard his parents views on what you can and cannot do with your money. That said, since you asked, l would do nothing at all except wear the lovely meaningful amethyst with pride and get a diamond ring later if you both still want to. Wear them alternately or whatever.

misslucy : this absolutely makes complete sense, you are so right! Actually I’m not even thinking of spending that much on a diamond/moissy ring so it would be easier to save up for that 😉
elderberry : thank you soo much I am getting so much more confidence with all the sweet words from you guys! Maybe in the end I won’t even want a diamond ring who knows lol

Kc20 : firstly holy smokes your ring is GORGEOUS! That being said I TOTALLY get it! In my case I wear next to no jewellery and feel like my rings will be something I always want to change up a bit for fun. And I’m thinking maybe I’ll do that with beautiful stack rings. Which btw where is you “v” one from umm LOVE.
I had a an evolution of rings over the years. I did a collage they kinda got mixed up but let me walk you through
Top right my original set the diamond is an heirloom I was super fortunate, we got married at 22 and a diamond was not on the priority list so resetting to a setting of my choice was what I did.
Bottom left was my 5 year upgrade I got a beautiful 5 stone moissanite band and a blue moissanite to mimic my birthstone blue topaz (December) bottom right I mix up with stackers for visual fun cause I get bored.
Top left me never being brave enough to wear them like this but oh it’s so pretty! I used to think it looked too “flash/bold/ with my diamond.
And here we are 10 years this year and I decided it was time to reset my diamons from the white gold. To a yellow gold solitaire. I still.kept my beautiful blue moissy to switch it up when I feel though. So without further ado. Say hello to my new BFF.
So this whole long post is to tell you girl! I feel ya, if ya know what ya want save up for it rather than the temporary. Or don’t be afraid to have some different rings you switch in and out of! ❤️

katml : omggg drooooling over your new yellow gold rings!!! Those kinda look like my dream set seriously! Thank you for sharing and now I know I’m not alone in feeling like I have to change up my rings! I am sure I want to forever wear my original amethyst ring but I guess I want something else in addition to my set to look more classic.

Kc20 : I TOTALLY get that! Lol I felt the same way and that’s how I end up with my moissanite as well. And thank you! I’m super in love as well! believe it or not my 5 stone band is actual “rose gold”. Where did you get your awesome “v” shape ring from!? 🙂
Post # 24
katml : oh I got it from an Etsy seller. The listing isn’t up anymore but you can search “curved moissanite bands” and you can find something you like or just have it customized!

I would not spend a dime until I knew exactly what I wanted. Until then? shop berricle or chris cz’s for something blingy, fun and inexpensive.

I LOVE your set! It is so pretty and unique! And I love it a lot more than a morganite (which I have seen cloud up over time). I say keep it and when you guys are more comfortable get what you really want. For perspective, I also have a very different ring and I love it!

i would avoid morganite for a ring. If you want that look you’re better off getting a peach lab sapphire in my opinion as that’s a far more durable stone.
Further, if you want moissanite, it shouldn’t be too expensive via Starsgem or Tianyu.

Kc20 : I absolutely love your set!! It’s gorgeous!!! Where did you get all 3 rings?? I think it would be quicker to wait and then upgrade sooner!! Make sure the new set is everything that you want so you don’t have regrets later!

I don’t know what your budget is but a ring from any of the Chinese direct companies are very affordable. I would think you would get more judgement from his family if you switch to a morganite and then a moissanite because that will be 3 rings. If you get a smaller moissy and then upgrade a bit larger, they probably won’t notice. Ordering direct from those companies, the price difference between the sizes are under $100. I think most people are buying 8 mm moissanites with lab diamond bands in the $500 range. They can even make you a similar ring to what you have and you can just say you switched out the center stone.
