my baby* rottie went in for a spay surgery this morning, but before they could even make the incision into her abdomen, her heart was showing severe irregular rhythms so the vet decided to abort the procedure and bring her out of sedation. she is going to see a cardiologist tomorrow afternoon to get an echo to see whats going on with her heart. i’m really worried about it 🙁 the vet said he was shocked it was so frequent on the ecg monitor! i’m worried its DCM (a disease that usually causes sudden death, most dogs die within 6-12 months of diagnosis – usually found in the doberman breed) or something horrible like that… i’m hoping she just had a bad reaction to the anesthetics. what an expensive puppy shes becoming!
anyway, i’m super anxious about the specialist visit tmw, although im grateful i can have answers within the day. i’m leaving work at noon to bring her to her appointment, and Fiance is coming with me for support. if you could think good thoughts for my pup i’d really appreciate it.
here she is :
*she isn’t a baby per se, shes 15 months. but shes always gonna be my baby!
ETA: her parents were both cardiac cleared as normal – hoping for the best with my pup

Poor thing! What a sweetie. I am sorry she had issues and you and your furbaby are in my thoughts. I hope you have some answers soon.

Oh no! I hope that it’ll turn out to be something treatable and not too serious. I always have a pit in my stomach when somethings wrong with one of our babies. Good luck to you!

Thanks guys! Counting down the hours..

Sorry you’re going through this, are they absolutely sure it wasn’t due to the preanesthetic meds? I have seen some crazy arrhythmias before in dogs under anesthesia that are caused by the medications. Hopefully that was the case in her and her heart is ok!

Uh oh. Good luck! I hope she turns out fine.

What a beautiful puppy – lots of prayers and I hope everything comes back clear x

You’re the same lady that needed to know you were doing the right thing right? I’m sorry this is happening to you but I’m sure she’ll be alright. Some dogs just don’t do well with the anesthesia, but I’m sure they’ll figure out how to help her through it. I hope you get through all of this quickly and painlessly. Sending my love to you both.

Sending positive thoughts from me and my 2.5 year old (Baby Puppy!!) to you and your baby! Praying it was just a freak accident to the anesthesia 🙁

What a sweet little face!
I hope it was just a bad rection to the meds and not something more serious. Good luck tomorrow, I’m sending positive vibes your way!

@pixiecat: No, they are not totally sure but they say it is unlikely, and probably was something wrong with her heart :'( We are going to the cardiologist today to find out for sure. Thank you for your words though, it gives me hope.. hoping that wont make it harder if it really is SAS or DCM :/
@cloverbug: Nope, that wasn’t me but I do remember that thread. I’m not that worried if it is because of the drugs – I’m actually hoping for that. I’m worried she has a heart disease that is pretty fatal 🙁
To everyone – it is 7:30 am here. I have slept like, 2 hours last night. I had messaged another member on a rottweiler forum, and told her the situation. Not looking good. Appts at 2… omg I dont know how I can deal if its the bad diagnosis – my puppy wil be a ticking time bomb, and google says 6-12month lifespan. I’ve invested SO much in her – both financially (over 12k. I know. I’m a crazy lady. I also bought a house 2 years early to have a dog!) and time/emotionally. I dont know. I’m so mad at .. the universe, idk.
