i wanna have hope that trumps run as president will be done after only 4 years, but the people running against him on both the democratic and republican side so far, i cant see any of them beating him. Although im starting to wonder if there are a lot more people who easily say they are for him, but in reality would not vote for him in a heartbeat.

ill be interested to see poll numbers on the republican side of things come this next election. To see how many possibly sway to the independent or democratic side..

Kslim13 :  I’m around a lot of republicans. Just because they are quiet they still support Trump. We just can’t talk about this because of the hate and accusations we get. I know I’m not a racist, I’m just done arguing about it. Does Trump say stupid stuff? Oh yes he does. Would I build the wall? Probably not. Do I think I should focus on that instead of what he’s done and planning on doing for the economy? Absolutely not.

I’m from a former communist then socialist country so Bernie scares me more than any comment Trump can make.

melihbee :  Given the way the former Societ Bloc ran their “communist” and then “socialist” countries, I can understand that. But many countries in Western Europe, or even Canada, have socialized medicine. I doubt one would compare that to the former satellite countries. Yes, it may take nominally longer to see a specialist, but overall, the countries today with socialized medicine don’t have to worry about either not getting treatment for a potentially fatal illness or going bankrupt because of one or two emergency room visits. People in the US without insurance have died from it.

Most of us with insurance absolutely cannot understand how that could work, but those without insurance do not and can not have regular treatment. That means that if you have cancer, you have no regular treatment, no team to work on your case. You go to the ER when your pain becomes overwhelming and then return home to “live” until the pain becomes unbearable again, and then you die. How about that for one of the wealthiest countries in the world? Aren’t you proud?

For the folks who are saying “people get offended too easily these days”, all I can say is WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. Seriously.  Shit like “Send her back”  has been a part of  racism since the days of Thomas Jefferson. Angry white people shouted “Go Back To Africa” at the Little Rock 9. In 1957. Nineteen fifty fucking seven, people! We SHOULD find it easy to get offended by this, because it is disgusting and deeply offensive!

If you look the other way, then you are saying to the racists around you “this is ok.”  And you should be ashamed of yourself.

It’s not ok, and it’s even worse that the shitbag president thinks it’s cute when his garbage can followers break out into “Send Her Back” chants at his rallies.

OP— the man in your friend’s story is an asshole and your friend is a hero for standing up to him.

melihbee :  no one is tossing out accusations, hate, or attacks. it’s just…it is what it is? the person you vote for shows what you support and/or are willing to accept and/or overlook. it shows your values. you essentially putting economic gain over people’s lives shows what you value most.

is it shitty? yeah. but no one here has attacked you for it. are you *gasp* offended by the truth?

melihbee :  No one is accusing YOU of anything.

But anyone who says “send her back” is being racist.

OP, that behavior is so wildly inappopriate. I can’t imagne for a second that anyone would be that damn stupid. I hope the second he opened his mouth he realized the mistake he was making. The political climate is making such individuals who have previously kept quiet feel like they can now say whatever they want without consequence. Let them show who they are.

Yeah, it is racist. I am the child of immigrants to the US. We’re white. Nobody has ever said anything about “sending us back” to where we’re from. Nobody has (to my face) been inappropriate in any way. Actually, when I tell people where I’m from, it is met with remarks about how beautiful the country is, how nice the food is, etc etc. This experience is miles away from the experience of immigrants of color.

lauralaura123 :  I’m Australian, but have spent time as an immigrant to another country.  My father’s family are all immigrants to Australia.

I don’t even understand how the person who shouted this, could see it as a joke?  Like, there is zero wit in it.  It’s just an aggressive, racist statement.  It was before Trump’s comments, and it still is after.

And I am someone who in the right context and with the right people, can find certain racial jokes amusing.  For example, when our one black friend (that’s not deliberate, there aren’t many in my area) refers to himself as “Token”.

j_jaye :  I have seen you say things along these lines more than once, and everytime, it breaks my heart.  I can’t fathom the idea of having to deal with that in your lived experience, and having to have a guard up at all times.

melihbee :  i dont hate people who voted for trump, part of it i can understand why they did. Politics kind of became a sh*tshow towards the end of obamas era and trump was i guess a breath of fresh air for a lot of people. Trump did show some promise, but personally i think he screwed it up after his first year of presidency.

I want to believe and think that a good half of trump voters are normal sane people. But then you have the unfortunate half who embrace hatred. And typically the loudest in the room gets the most attention, therefore most opinions of trump supporters are negative ones, cause we really only hear and see the ones who act crazy and very loudly support trumps hateful rhetoric.

I just want a sane president, i dont even care if its a democrat or a republican at this point, i just dont want to wake up in the morning and have to hear about the twitter meltdowns at 8am while trying to enjoy my breakfast anymore. Is that too much to ask america?!?!

j_jaye :  Everytime I see the bumper sticker “Fuck off we’re full” I want to ram up the backside of the shitty 1990s Holden Commodore it’s stuck to.

Like ok Bazza with your “it’s-not-even-ironic” mullet, sucking on a durry before flinging it out the window (IN BUSHFIRE SEASON), immigrants are definitely what’s wrong with this country.

“Send her back” isn’t racist, melihbee? WHERE, exactly, do you think your president wants to send her? Three of the four were born in the US, and the last is a naturalized citizen. There is no “back” to send them!  “They” are us, are ALL of us who aren’t Indigenous People. That’s not an accusation, and it isn’t hate. The only person spewing hate is #45.

Trump may have stimulated job growth which is great, and other economic achievements. But i dont think his hatefulness is good for our country. And i dont understand how that alone has made trump supporters possibly think twice about if hes good for our country or not.

We had immigration problems before trump and we will probably have immigration problems way after trump. Im sorry that the leader of the free world see’s anyone of color or different race as an illegal but honestly he’s an idiot to think the typical american should be white. Like really dude, have you been living under a dang rock all these years.

but then again, we should have seen it coming when he started that whole obama birther movement. That should have been the big red flag to people that trump thinks anyone of color or different race is illegal and shouldnt be here. but yet here we are…..

melihbee :  Like I totally get what you’re saying right.

I’m a big L Liberal right winger from Australia (the Liberals are the largest right wing party here in Aus, to confuse you). But right wing here still guarantees you access to public health, a decent minimum wage, publically funded higher education (with a managable system of debt recovery) among other things the right wingers in the US like to call “Communism”. There is such thing as a healthy amount of socialism in a right-wing country it’s about balance.

I feel like there has to be a middle ground between Trump and Bernie. Like where is that candidate? That candidate might actually win and do the right thing by the country.

Sorry. Derailing the thread.
