No, it’s weird.  You’re paying them for services and certainly made it on their calendars.  STDs are for guests to reserve the date before sending a formal invitation.

….maybe your priest, if you have a good relationship, but I think anyone else is a little strange. You’re paying for their services, not inviting them as a guest.

northshorebride:    Save-The-Date Cards are for guests, not for hired vendors.

northshorebride:  Well that was a rude response. Do you usually ask for advice on a subject solely from people who have no experience with it? Married women have a lot to contribute to these boards…and I’m not just saying that because I’m married now.

FWIW IA with PPs. It would be weird.

I’d say no… not necessary and a little strange.

northshorebride:  I have been married for over 4 years but still happily contribute to these boards.  Just because someone may already be married doesn’t mean that they aren’t allowed or that it is weird they are on a wedding forum.  There are just some people who like talking about weddings and offering up advice that they learned from actually going through the planning process.  Also, many posters build friendships and relationships with other posters in the community so they stick around.

I sent one to our photographer because it featured her photograph and she appreciated it. I wouldn’t be inclined to send to any others, personally.

I would only send to vendors that were friends prior to wedding planning.

For example, the person who will do my hair is a good friend I know because we board our horses at the same barn. We have a friendship outside being a vendor for my wedding and she would be invited regardless of if she was performing a service for the wedding or not.

Other than that, maybe the priest if he has been your family priest for a long time or something. But other vendors, no I agree with PP, that’s weird.

northshorebride:  Very weird. So no, do not send Save-The-Date Cards to your vendors. Also snarking on someone trying to help you is really rude!!!!!

Your vendor would rather have a deposit than an STD.

Any vendor who can manage to take your deposit and still needs an STD to remember that they are working for you on whatever day, is probably not a vendor worth dealing with.
