My FH actually picked the date, September 16th, a Thursday!  We are getting married in Europe and he wanted the wedding a few days before Oktoberfest on the 18th.

We kind of did it by process of elimination our birthday’s are in October and November we didn’t want to do it near either of those plus after that the weather gets too tricky. Into 2011 my sister has a limited schedule because of her law school schedule and graduation then the bar exam, for us 2012 wasn’t aan option. One of my younger brothers might be deployed AGAIN at the end of September. My older brother is coming all the way from the UK and his schedule was limited, when you’ve got a lot of siblings to deal with and you want all of them there it’s kind of tricky to work with schedules so Labor day weekend seemed the best match.

its almost a year exactly to when he proposed, and its a 3 day weekend so it allows his family time to come down without having to take time off work 🙂

We actually didn’t pick ours, the manager at our venue did. We wanted a Saturday or a holiday weekend so that people had time to travel & recover. I would have loved the 4th, but the only date they had open was 9.5.10 – so we took it.

we picked the holiday weekend because so many of my FI’s family and friends are traveling cross-country that we thought it would be best if they had the extra day off for traveling.

can’t believe it’s coming up so soon!

I love how so many of you have such romantic reasons for picking your date! Ummm ya, we don’t, LOL!

  • Fiance is a big guy (6′-1″), big across the shoulders, so he gets hot easily. That ruled out July and August.
  • June= lots of bugs in Ontario, plus the weather can be hit or miss.
  • That left us with September. Not too hot, not too cold. Not too many bugs.
  • Our photographer was booked the 18th.
  • Our other friends are getting married the 25th.
  • The 4th is the long weekend and we have a lot of friends who go away that weekend, plus as it turns out, another wedding to attend that day.
  • That left the 11th!

Not super romantic, more just practical. A lot of people give us comments about the date, but I’ve actually come to really embrace it. I think it’s a great day to take stock of who’s important to you and not take things and people for granted.

We picked the long weekend because we have over half our guest list coming from out of town. We thought it would be nice if they had the extra day to explore Vancouver a bit!

We debated between the May long weekend and September, but ultimately chose September because we figured we’d have better weather (and less threat of rain!) At one point I went through weather history to see what the weather had done on that particular date for the past 5 years. Oy.

ALmost all of our guests are coming from out of town, so we thought a holiday weekend would be most conducive to them.  Also, we will be sharing a wedding anniversary with two other couples that are good friends from college, so we like the idea of being able to celebrate together in years to come.

I guess I’m the only one who based their date on football schedules…  It was a by week for one of our colleges, and an unimportant game for the other.  We chose September to get out of the Texas summer heat to a point, but still give us enough time to get ready.  –We were also skipping the summer so that my fiance would have time to find a job after graduating (which he did last Saturday), but now he’s found a job and we still have to wait 4 months!!
