My wedding is going to be in early December of this year, and I am debating whether I should have my bridesmaids wear regular red dresses or spice things up a bit with champagne-gold sequin dresses. I have been seeing these awesome photos of other bridesmaids wearing sequin dresses in the winter, and it looks so fabulous. But since my wedding will be in a traditional church setting, will the dresses seem too flashy and inappropriate? Help, please!

It really depends on the time of day of your wedding and also what the sequin dresses look like. Sequins can be tastefully done. I was at a church wedding in November that had sequin bridesmaids dresses. They were lovely. But the dresses were also fairly modest, and the wedding was in the evening.

My ceremony will begin at 4:00 and the reception around 5. I was thinking of maybe doing sequins on only part of the dress. Would something like this dress be pretty and appropriate for the time of day?

DecemberBride2014: I think the modest neckline and flowy skirt make them totally appropriate. And cute!

DecemberBride2014: I’m having a church wedding this spring and my girlfriends are all wearing sequins. I think especially around the holidays, sequins are great, and can come off as festive. Especially in that color palate, I think they are fine for church.

The only thing you need to be careful with with those dresses is that some churches require you to cover your shoulders and wear slightly longer skirts. I would check first!

DecemberBride2014: Really cute. My daughter was looking for gold maid’s gowns and got Dessy’s Venetian Gold. She originally wanted all sequins/bling/beading and then realized they were very expensive. And Sse knew from her senior prom gown, with lots of beading, those dresses can be very heavy.

As a followup question, I have been thinking about ordering the skirt part of this dress in black and keep the top part that same champagne-gold. Thoughts?
