@HappinessIsInDaisies: I like a little imperfection, too- I intentionally bought a solid pine wood table because it will weather and become imperfect over time ๐ I’ve realized that there really is no such thing as perfect- but this is my first time dealing with an engagement ring- so it was new territory for me!!
@FutureMrsV2016: nothing hand made is perfect- indeed! i was with my ciousin tonight. i didn’t tell her about the ring, but asked her to look at my ring carefully and tell me if she see’s anything wrong with it. she couldn’t find it- but noticed it after i told her- and after looking extra hard at it AFTER i told her. we both decided that what if, since it IS hand set, that can’t be perfect, what if it comes back “worse”!
thank all of you guys so much for your input. i am going to leave it as it is- my diamond sparkles like crazy and it’s uniquely my ring! if it should bother me down the road, i definitely have the option to get it reset.

@MrsEME: Awesome – I’m glad you’re keeping it! I didn’t even think about the possibility that it could come back worse! yikes….haha.

I sent my ring back for repairs a couple of times, and eventually they had to re-make the whole thing. Whenthe new ring came back, the centre stone was a TINY bit crooked in the setting (ony visible from the side, as in one side was a bit higher than the other), but I decided to live with it.
So, basically I’ve done both, sent the ring back, and also lived with a flaw. In your case, its such a small issue, and does not risk the safety of your stone, so I would leave it. It’s not worth the stress of shipping it back and forth, and the anxiety of being without your ring! ๐

The day after i got my e ring I noticed one of the tiny pave diamonds on it is a little yellow. It drove me crazy for a few days but no one notices except me! So I’m leaving it like that. It reminds me that neither life nor our relationship is perfect, but we love them anyway!

@MrsEME: I’m glad to know I’m not the only one! After super careful examination of my sapphire from the side, I’m 99% sure it’s just a hair crooked. But you totally can’t tell unless you hold it right in front of your eyes and stair at it. And even then I sort of second guess myself. I’m not sure if it’s purposefully set that way to enhance the color or something, but you can’t tell otherwise. We ordered online as well, and I’m not sure if I would have to send it back there for an adjustment. I’m so nervous about the idea of shipping my ring out that I might just live with the imperfection. I really have no desire to take my beautiful ring off my finger!

@Morganmime: love your philosophy…it’s how I feel, too. I just wasn’t sure because I’ve never owned such a beautiful piece before!
@pineapplez17: I did learn that some stones are set “crooked” because of the way they are cut. The symmetry on my diamond is graded “excellent” By GIA, So I don’t think that’s the case for me….but my local jeweler said for sure stones have to be set a certain way so e times, so maybe that’s the case with your sapphire. Embrace it, own it, and learn to love it! Hard to take our beauties off of our fingers – and this post has helped me feel confident that keeping my ring the way it is is the best way. Just take your ring to a local jeweler makes sure your gem is safe. Something I liked when my local jeweler looked at it- he didn’t bad mouth the place I got it from….at all. He simply told me the diamond was safe, long that in his opi ion, it wasn’t worth having reset.

@pineapplez17: also….you wouldn’t HAVE to send it bac. To the online place you bought it from….but a local ace might charge you for the work. And often times, if the online shop has a warranty, it’s voided another jeweler has worked onthe piece!

@MrsEME: Yea, there’s a warranty on it, which is why I feel like I’d have to ship it back. We’re getting it appraised on Friday (FI didn’t have it long enough to get it appraised before he gave it to me lol), so I’ll ask their opinion on the stone. It seems like it’s securely in there, but I want to double check. The measurements of the stone seemed like it was pretty symmetrical, but who knows! Thanks for the info that some stones are purposefully set “crooked.” That definitely makes me feel better. And like I said, you totally can’t tell unless you look really hard for it!

@pineapplez17: I’m not one hundred percent about this….but I’m pretty sure the measuremts wouldn’t determine how the stone is set. I honestly have no idea how sapphires are cut, but for example….on a diamond, it wouldn’t be the measurement, but the cut….like how the facets Re cut. So even with seemingly straight measurement, it might have to dip with facets ๐

@MrsEME: that’s a good point. I also know that sapphires (and other colored stones) are cut differently to maximize the color. So it’s possible that they set it in a way to make sure the color appears perfectly even. Either way it’s not noticable unless I stare at it. I might have to get it sized down a bit though, so if I do end up having to send it off I might enquire about the setting of the stone. Not looking forward to that though!
