I bought my dress last september , a year before my wedding, at a sample sale. I went with my mom and my Maid/Matron of Honor to have fun but I wasn’t really expeting to find anything. The first dress I tried on was EXACTLY what I wanted at the time. It’s simple, beautiful and classic. I didn’t buy the sample, however, because the lace on the sample looked old and ratty. I ordered a new one, and went on my merry way, happy that the dress was chosen and purchased. To be clear, I LOOOOVED my dress for a very long time, and I was very happy with it.
I surprised a lot of people that I know by chosing something so simple and classic, because I’m known for taking chances with my wardrobe, and for being a bit edgier than most.
I’ve had a very hard year leading up to the wedding (a miscarriage in May being the biggest setback/sadness in my life right now) and I feel like I’ve changed a lot.
I went for my first fitting on friday, and I was severly disappointed. I felt like the dress was TOO simple and TOO classic, and mostly TOO boring for me. I originally wanted to be very classic and elegant, but now I think that I should wear something more fun. I’ve been drooling over the Tara Keely 2210 for a long time now, and I think I should be wearing something more like that.
It has to be said that my dress wasn’t fitting the way it should, nor was the neckline right, and they’re fixing it for me, so I may feel very different when I go in next week for my second fitting. Right now, however, I’m feeling like I should cut my dress into a mini and see if I can buy the TK skirt or a similar one, to wear what I really feel like would suit me more. What do you guys think?

Sorry for such a tiny pic of my original dress. I’m not very computer savvy 🙂

First, hugs to you for the difficulties you’ve faced this year.
Second, I would wait till your next fitting and see how you feel about the dress. That said, I LOVE the idea of chopping off the bottom and having a custom made long skirt to wear on top of it. Pair it with a blingy belt and it would be fab!

Firstly, I’m so sorry to hear of your tough year 🙁 I hope you’re feeling a little better now 🙂
Secondly, the fact that you managed to successfully upload the photo makes you more computer savvy than me ;D
Thirdly, I really love that Tara Keely dress, as there’s so many different styles to it (I have also seen it where the bottom skirts are still attached but pulled back to reveal the mini). I like the original one too, but I guess I’m a little biased to the second one as it’s a little like mine 🙂 But I’ve seen a few girls have chosen a new dress and sold their original one, esp if it still has the tags on. How about trying the TK dress and then making a decision? I also agree with Miss Mauverick that you cld feel different after your second fitting. Good luck! 🙂

I’m going in a week for my second fitting, so hopefully it’ll work itself out! I really don’t think the TK could be ready for me in 6 weeks, unless the store sells me their sample!

Can you order just the wrap around skirt? Are you just looking for something fuller?

I think your original dress is pretty and looks great on you! Why not add a fun sparkly or lace belt? Maybe a cathedral length veil to jazz it up for the ceremony. And for the reception, you could wear something fun in your hair to really show your personality like a flower, or cage veil. You could even make it your own by wearing unique jewelry like a statement necklace. I would give it another try.
There is a reason you originally loved that dress so much. I wouldn’t buy a new one just yet. There are so many ways to personalize a simple dress.
You could also select a fun dress (like the lace one thats short that you posted) to wear just at the reception so that you could have the best of both worlds.
Hope you feel better… **hugs**
