So I have my annual gyn appointment tomorrow afternoon, and I’m fairly certain I am ovulating early (EWCM turning to watery in the last two days, low abdominal cramps). is it safe or does it make sense to BD this evening which would be less than 24 hours before my appt, or am I just SOL this month? For reference it’s only CD 13 and I’ve been irregular all year after coming off BCP. My cycles average 37 days, so I did not anticipate ovulating when I made the appt!

The exam won’t affect anything. BD all you want. We BD’d both days prior to my annual as well as the evening of my annual and the next night. I ovulated either the day of my exam or the next day and I am now 7 months pregnant. I even asked the doctor if the exam would affect anything and she said it wouldn’t.

@sit1010: thanks for the advice! I just know you’re not really supposed to right before an exam and I’d feel bad subjecting my poor gyn to an extra Too Much Information situation, but I don’t want to be out this month just because of that!

I wouldn’t. Think about it. They say that for a reason – the reason being that having other “stuff” in there could affect whether or not your pap comes back normals. Odds are very likely that you’re normal and have nothing to worry about. BUT if you do BD and it comes back abnormal AND you get a BFP – you’ll be left wondering whether it is a real problem or from the BD. And it could also complicate followup if you’re in early pregnancy. Is it worth the risk? It wouldn’t be to me.
Have you been BDing all week anyway? Because if your EWCM has changed to less fertile, you might have already ovulated anyway. Do you temp or use OPKs at all?

@whitums: I had an OBGYN appt two days after getting back from our honeymoon, so we definitely didn’t do any “abstaining” in the couple of days before our appointment!
And my pap came back fine! (And apparently, my doctor suspected I was already pregnant at that appointment but didn’t tell me–I got my BFP 5 days later!)

@Mrs.LemonDrop: I have not been BD’ing in several days as Darling Husband has been away and I did not expect to ovulate early…if I am indeed ovulating. Its only CD 13 for me of an average 37 day cycle. We have about a two month window to TTC as I am switching jobs next fall and don’t want to have to worry about job hunting pregnant so I don’t really want to miss one out of two chances because it’s possible my test might come back funky. I have read that modern Pap tests are not affected by having other fluids present, but not sure if that’s actually true!

@whitums: Can you just reschedule your appointment? Seems like the opportunity to make a baby is more important than the exact timing of your exam…

@lolot: I’m overdue and actually have tomorrow off, so was hoping not to, but I agree with you. Guess I will just do my thing and call in the morning to check and see if they would rather I reschedule!
