@firefliesinthesky:  omg story of my LIFE… one of my friends works at WIC and we text one another what our office smells like… this weeks were:  “teeth rot” “burnt skin and cinnamon” “greasy hair on fire” “syrup and urine”

@Barbiestylez:  That’s why God put our noses so far from our feet- so we can’t smell them.

Sometimes there really aren’t a lot of options for people who are mentally ill or homeless. Other smells can be culturally related to diet.

$10 can be a lot of money to some people.

Try being an ER nurse for a week!

Put something with mentholatum or eucalyptus under your nose.

To be honest I think some of it has to do with their diet and nutrition. It’s likely that someone who eats a bunch of fatty processed foods will have a stronger body odor than someone who actually eats fresh foods! I feel like I can smell the Taco Bell oozing out of people’s pores sometimes. ugh.

I can’t think of too many legitimate excuses someone could have for not showering daily, brushing their teeth and using deodorant.  As an adult I think well minded people should consider this obligatory.

I don’t know what I would do if I had to deal with that rank stench all day.

I thought the same today, I had two people who just smelled like they hadn’t showered or washed their clothes in weeks. Thankfully there was a piece of glass to stop some of the smell, but it really didn’t help

@highschoolhoneys:  I often think about what will happen when I’m pregnant. I have literally gagged while trying to talk to people before and I just can’t imagine. It’s so sad..

Ughh I know! It is so gross! I work with the public, but from behind a desk and sometimes it takes a second for the smell to drift over my desk to my nose and sometimes while I am still talking to them I take a breath and gag a little bit and then I have to focus on not breathing through my nose the whole exchange! And then the area I work in smells like that for a good ten minutes. Ick, ick, ick.

I know some people have problems and can’t help it but I think for the most part they are just lazy. It takes me a few days of staying in bed when I am sick to be able to start smelling weird and even then, only I can smell it. I can’t imagine leaving a trail of stink.

@firefliesinthesky:  I don’t know if you’re familiar with Terry Pratchett at all, but I think you’ve found Foul Ole Ron in real life

@This Time Round:  I will give you that there are a LOT of people who haven’t been taught. Working in a psych hospital, my heart BREAKS for the kids who smell bad/have poor hygeine because no matter what we teach them at the hospital, when they go home, they won’t have access or the opportunity to continue practicing good hygeine. You klnow they’re destined to get made fun of nad not have the same relationships with other kids that htey would if they were clean. The world is a cruel place and they’re just at such a disadvantage.

If “stink lines” were real (like in cartoons), do you think this would help? A visual cue? Like that purple stuff that shows up if you pee in a swimming pool?
