A semi-close friend of mine just got engaged today. I’m not having a hard time being happy for her, that parts easy. I’m having a hard time figuring out how I am not going to make this recent engagement into yet another discussion with SO about getting engaged. We have talked and talked and talked about it. Recently he had stated that we would be engaged before summer (hmmm, it’s pretty much summer), but I’m fairly confident he has not even ordered a ring. I guess I’m just feeling frustrated and a little down in the dumps.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Thanks for letting me vent!

Vent away! Sorry that he hasn’t got his but into gear. Hopefully he’s just super sneaky.

If I were you, I’d just try to make it statement oriented with a purpose. That likely makes no sense. Rather than saying “Jim and Susan got engaged” the only purpose of the statement being to convey “engagement news” to him, you say “I’m headed out for drinks with Susan to celebrate her engagement. Want to come?” or “Hey what do you think of this as an engagement present for Jim & Susan? Do you think they’d like it?” Hope that makes sense. Good luck…and hey maybe you can get him to talk to the new fiance about how long the process took!
