I have done this before no problems.  I even had ones to big made smaller.  Should be fine.

I think the .2 mm difference will be a non issue for any skilled jeweler.

I have 7mm round colorless (DEF) moissanite in 14k YG. It has 6 claw prongs.

Based on what I’ve read around here, if you have/want a warmer stone then it is best to go with YG or RG since WG will emphasize the warmth of the stone. But if you are not color sensitive then you should go with whatever metal you like!

Can you show us your lovely stone? Where is it from?

Here’s my ring for reference:

You should be okay, I have always heard you can go one-tenth of a mm higher or lower, at 2 tenths you’ll probably be okay.  Only the jeweler can tell you for sure though.

However, your jeweler can often order your setting with an exact (or close enough) measurement.

anon2020 :  I have an 8.2mm moissanite. Prong width is alterable within a certain point set before it weakens the prongs. It’s usually 1-2.5mm of difference. My 8.2 went into a “7.5-9mm” prong setting, so .2mm is not an issue. Just find a jeweler that works with moissanite regularly because they’ll have the right kind of tools to use (diamond tools can harm moissanite, from what I understand).

i have a .90 ct J colored diamond. I have it set in a 4 prong white gold solitaire. I chose 4 prongs because I like the subtlety of the 4 prong setting. I dont know much about settings and sizes, but here’s a pic of mine!

anon2020 :  Thank you! No, not at all. My diamond is in there very solidly, there is absolutely no wiggle room to it!

carmelovesyou :  I love your ring so much. This is the second time I’ve seen it and gawked over it. This is exactly what I want but in rose gold. Can you share your specs? I think I read on a previous post about where you got it, but what exactly do you ask for when you are working with someone who is in another country? (sorry if I am mistaking you for another bee lol) Is this a hearts and arrows cut? Does everyone know what that is? haha. sorry if thats a dumb question.
