I’d pronounce it ZAY-vyur.  Or possibly GZAY-vyur or KZAY-vyur.  But there’s no vowel at the beginning of the word, so I don’t see why people would add one there.

Wow I’ve heard it all three ways. The first time I ever heard it was in a Spanish context when I lived in Arizona for many years, so in my mind it’s “hav-ee-air”, but “ex-avy-er” sounds natural to my ear too.

I have just asked my SO out of curiosity how he would pronouce Xavier – He said Zayvyuh. I’m also quite sad as he dismissed it as our future DS’s name. Sam is still winning.

Zay-vee-er…Im from the south and I cringe when people pronounce the X.  The universities pronounce their names the same way (Xavier Univeristy) so I thats the way I pronounce it.

@SoupyCat:  Javier is a different name that’s why it wasn’t in the options.

my high school was called Xavier and they actually had us all taught/learn on the first day of school that our school’s name was ZAY-ve-er, not EX-ZAY-ve-er. i know a few friends that went to another xavier high school and it was also zay-ve-er. for what it’s worth.

I don’t care if I’m wrong.  Eck-Zay-vee-er sounds right to me.  I’m not even close to being a mom but I made two lists of baby names and Xavier is the third name down on the boys list!  Hahaha!!

I’m from the UK and say Zay-Vee-Er. I always think of X’s as being silent like the word Xylophone I don’t pronounce the X ?!

Just noticed this thread had been ressurected from a few years ago!

I always thought it was Eck-zay-vee-er but when I typed the name in to google translate it pronounces is Zay-vee-er. And I tried Xander and it’s pronounced Zan-der
