There’s a dress I’ve been eyeing for a while, something about it I just LOVE. Has lace, but not so much that on a chubbier girl would bulk me up. Very soft and romatic. And it has straps (not wanting strapless has taken away about 90% of the dresses out there!)See for yourself: http://www.bestbridalprices.com/allure-women-wedding-dresses-style-w282-p-84947.html
Isn’t it gorgeous? Soft lines, sexy but not too revealing. Perfect for our French Romance theme. The problem? Two. Apparently most bridal stores don’t carry this dress. I called every bridal store within an hour of my house. So I started branching out and called stores in other states/on the other side of my state. To my luck I found a dress shop that carries this dress….about 2 hrs away. Not so bad. But they won’t have a sample in until mid March. And what if I got it on and hated it? That would only leave me 4-5 months…which apparently in the world of bridal gowns is not enough lead time. I am also petite so anything I buy would need alteration.
So this past week I went to a couple dress shops with my mom and bridesmaids for their dresses. One of the shops we went to was David’s Bridal. Of course while we were there the salesperson had me try on some gowns. And I found myself in this dress:http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Satin-A-Line-Off-the-Shoulder-Side-Draped-Gown-9WG3248_Bridal-Gowns-Shop-By-Size-Plus-Sizes
Suprisingly it is very similar in cut to the dress I love. And also half the price. But there is not as much beautiful lacework and detailing, and it has more of a crisp, modern feel to me than the soft romantic feel of the other. The saleswoman went on about how they are discontinuing it and that if I wanted it, I needed to order it then and there and it was only available in Ivory in a handful of sizes. The size I needed wasn’t left, so they ordered the size I tried on which was too big. They assured me that alterations would be able to take it in no problem. It was flattering so we pulled the trigger. My mom was buying the dress, and this gown was only $450, compared to $850 of the other, which I couldn’t even try on yet.
But the Allure is haunting me. I keep imagining myself in it, and since the cut is similar to the other, I would imagine it would also be flattering on me. Also I started a new workout program and am dropping weight fast and am not sure if the dress we ordered from Davids will even be able to be altered enough (said can only come in about 2 sizes and it was lose on me to begin with).
So I pose this question to you hive…. should I stick with what I have, hope alterations can work magic and just be okay with it? Everyone says don’t settle for your wedding…
Or should I go try on the other dress when that shop gets it in, trapse all over the state for it, and potentially fall in love? Also, if I did love the other dress, I wouldn’t want to make my mom pay for a second dress, but I don’t want to take away her pleasure of getting me my wedding gown and I think she may also be mad that I wasted her money on the first.
