Anyone sewn their own bridesmaid dresses? I’m so frustrated with the search for grey bridesmaid dresses that are affordable and NOT made of satin, and I feel like I’ve exhausted all my resources.
The benefits are that I’m an experienced seamstress, been sewing for 15 years, have experience with formalwear (I made my sister’s wedding dress), and I’ll get EXACTLY what I want and get the right fit for each girls. My girls are all local, so fittings are easy. I also have a new sewing machine that’s a workhorse, and I feel like it will make the process really easy. I have about 16 months until the big day, so there’s plenty of time, too!
The only drawback really is the time and effort. But… I love sewing! So it’s not really all that much of a bad thing. Some of my bridesmaids are even seamstresses themselves, and could probably help.
Anyone else try this? How did your results turn out? Did you like them?
FYI, I’m planning on creating a bateau-neckline fitted bodice with a nice fluffy a-line skirt, and some pintuck detailing at the bottom hem! Maybe even a two-layer skirt with a georgette silk, if I’m feeling ambitious.
A lot like this, only in a soft grey:
