The doctor told me to wait 6 weeks. He said it takes that long for everything to close up and heal. Not that big a deal.

Well it depends on the person and what they’re comfortable with. My friend found out she was pregnant her 6 week post partum visit lol

We waited 8 weeks and the first time hurt like a mother f, so we waited a little longer. Even with lots of lube it hurt to the point of tears for about a month or so and we tried about once a week.

my dr said I could whenever I felt up to it. At 2 weeks pp it was really painful, but at 3 weeks it was back to being awesome!

Most Docs say wait 6 weeks. But many women aren’t ready then. I’ve heard it’s not unusual to wait up to 6 months afterward due to low libido (BF really kills the sex drive) or pain, even with lube.

ana2017:  We waited 9 weeks. It hurt. We tried again a few weeks later and it was MUCH better and way less painful. I was also taking a Pilates class with lots of Kegals specifically for new moms and it helped a ton. I ended up needing to go to physical therapy for some muscular pain in my pelvic floor/vagina, so maybe my experience isn’t typical since I did have pain with exercise as well for almost 8 months.

They say 6 weeks in order for your uterus to heal properly. If you have sex too soon and your uterus is not completely healed from the placental separation, you can actually hemorrhage quite severely. There have been cases of women dying from having sex too soon postpartem. Having said that, it’s fairly unlikely and rare, and there are many women who have had sex well before 6 weeks pp and been fine. I wouldn’t risk it though. In fact, I think we waited about 3-4 months pp before sex…. but that was mostly because we were so busy and tired for the first few months.

We waited the 6 weeks the doctor told us. Sex was pretty uncomfortable for me until about 6 months postpartum.

I was cleared at 6 weeks but it was closer to the 8-9 week mark.

I was cleared at 8 weeks (I had my pp checkup at 8 weeks instead of 6 like most women do), but we didn’t end up having sex until like 14-15 weeks. It was super painful the first few times. It took several months before our sex life went back to normal.
