I live in a very small town [like less than 900 people]. There are 3 living here, and oddly enough, one is a little old lady! I find that super creepy.

I wonder how many of those are legit sex offenders and not 18-22 year old guys who dated younger girls [because I honestly dont think that’s super creepy].

It wasn’t too bad in Vermont (world’s lowest crime rates), but I literally won’t look at the list for the Boston suburb I live in…

yeah it is kinda freaky, but you have to remember a lot of them are total BS (peeing in public, 18 year old having consensual sex with a 16 year old, etc).

I have issues with this kind of list just because you don’t know WHAT they are on the list for. For instance, the little old lady someone mentioned above… she could be some sort of child molester, or she had a wild moment and streaked once… Who knows.

I wish it was more specific…

@Laurenskii:  This tells you the offense? Can you give me the name of the app? I would like it!

@SweetartMD:  +1

I don’t know how to feel about it. If the list was only limited to the horrendous sex offenders, then it wouldn’t be as big an issue for me. Some of the people on that list are there for stupid things like public urination. You pee in the woods at night and some kid sees you, it suddenly becomes a huge crime.

I find it creepy that you can get an ap for this. Sounds like a way to encourage vigilantaism to me. Also, it probably does not differentiate between an 18 year old who slept with a 15 year old who lied about her age, and a guy who preys on 7 year old girls. That’s a huge problem in my book.

Also… how are they getting this information? The ethics of that bothers me as well.

EDIT: Saw the update. Still bothers me.

My mom regularly patrols the sex offender list because she runs a park and she needs to know.

However, being a sex offender is finnicky. I think the whole system is flawed, so take what you read with a grain of salt.
