Of course it is company policy to never imply ownership in the event of a dildo we have to use the indefinate article “a dildo” never “your dildo”

I never have, but I have a friend with many decades of experience working in baggage and managing in that dept.

Apparently, only once have they run into a buzzing vibrating suitcase contained sex toys. It’s usually just electric toothbrushes, lol.  I’d just make sure to take the batteries out and put them in clear plastic bags.

I put all my undies in clear ziplocks, because I don’t want them on the ground or getting dirty.

banana86:  It depends on the toy re taking batteries out, but if you’ve got one that turns on if it’s bumped, you might want to remove them.

If you must pack a toy in carry-on luggage make sure it cannot slip out. We once saw a pink rabbit (nope it wasn’t cute ‘n furry) fall from an overhead locker whilst a (very red-faced) woman was reaching up and going through her cabin bag.

So this was many, many years ago (over 10, but after 9/11) – and the small airport in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico had this weird “checked bags” check when you arrived at the airport. They would either randomly green light or red light you – if you got the red light, your luggage was opened and checked. I was traveling with my boyfriend and his parents and had brought my vibrator. I’m surprised they didn’t flag me for looking suspicious… I was so worried they’d open my bag in front of his parents! Luckily, I got the green light. But that was the only scenario I’ve ever been in where your actual checked luggage got inspected while you stood there.

I brought handcuffs on our honeymoon in my checked bag and they made it through most of the way until we were flying home out of the Istanbul airport. All bags have to go through the scanner there as soon as you enter the airport. The security person pulled me aside and spoke no English but was motioning at her wrists- I had totally forgotten they were even in there!!! She confiscated them and told me “no. This is very bad.” while holding them up in front of everyone in line. I legit almost died & was SO paranoid that I’d get detained or flagged or something. Now it’s just hysterical and a great story about our first trip as husband and wife.

I wouldn’t worry about it in your checked bag. If you follow the TSA on Instagram you’ll see that even in carry ons they’ve seen way crazier things than sex toys…deli meat slicer, live eels, inert granaries, live birds taped to a woman’s body…seriously people, if you don’t follow them it’s very entertaining.

Some very interesting posts in this thread!

Just wanted to add that I’m a kiwi (New Zealander) and we have some incredibly strict customs for biosecurity purposes. This means they’re always on the lookout for any food or wood products etc. so there is a much higher rate of screening once you’ve picked up your checked bags at your destination. All in all there’s a good chance that you may have your bag x-rayed or searched (though the latter is less likely without a specific reason) while you are present. Sex toys certainly wouldn’t be an issue in this scenario, but those of us who are particularly shy might want a heads up about the possibility, haha!!
