I’m going to be joining you guys in another 3-5 months! I’m relocating to live with my SO in San Jose. Any advice for adjusting to Northern California from locals and/or transplants like myself?

@pengoala:  We drive a lot here, but I also find my city to be pretty walkable. But SO has already expressed about the driving haha.

He’s got an apartment right now. We aren’t sure if we’ll stay there or find somewhere else, but he likes it well enough. I’m going out to visit in a couple of weeks, which will give me a chance to see what the area is like and I am SO excited!

The weather is what I’m most looking forward to. Is there a lot of rain? Or mostly sun? How cold does it get on average during the winters?

I was born in the Bay and lived there for 18 years of my life does that count? lol. All my family still lives there, I just moved 2 hours away to live with my Fiance.

@pengoala:  Oh wow! Congrats! That’s awesome. πŸ™‚ I live in a SMALL town called Colfax now. It’s on the way to Reno/ Tahoe.

@pengoala:  High 40’s? Oh mannn. That’s considered a heat wave here in the winter! Love it. I’m kinda scared about missing out on the seasons, but as both of our families are here in the east we can always visit for the missed snow xD

Yeah, he’s currently doing a semester-long internship with a company in San Jose that we’re thinking is going to turn into a job. They’ve got him in India working with clients right now, who does that with someone they don’t plan on keeping around? lol. But if he doesn’t get an offer from there, he’s been applying to tons of companies in the Bay area since that’s where we both REALLY want to be.

(Should add that he’s finishing his master’s degree – this internship and an online class complete his degree and he’ll receive it mid-May.)
