I’m not saying that we’re shallow here, but I know after Fiance proposed, there were a couple reasons I was so exited about the ring besides it symbolizing our love and commitment (that’s a given). So here’s my example.
In my sorority, we have a ceremony when a girl gets engaged where the ring is put on a candle and passed around the room so all the girls can get a good look at it. I was so excited to show it off to all of them and see their faces haha.
So what are your less-than-noble reasons you got excited about your ring?

@Ellyson: lol, love it!
My shallow reason was cause I wanted the players at the office to stop the cheezy “let’s hook up” lines. This one dude at the office literally said to me, pre ring on my finger, “oh, for real if he didn’t get you a ring then you’re missing out with me” And a month later I was like, “um, BOOM *insert ring hand all up in his face*, you said what? oh you have such depth of love that you can pull this? N.O. Bye.”
*does the shallow-victorious dance*

My favorite color is pink, and so is my ring! I’m very proud that he knew what I’d like best even though we had not discussed styles.

My sweet granny is so proud that I am her first grandchild to get engaged. When I go to visit her, she grabs my hand and pushes it into the faces of people we run into and brags. It’s nice to have someone to show off my ring for me so I don’t have to 🙂

Showing it off to my friends!

I’m the oldest of a dozen or so cousins on my mom’s side, and most of them are female. I was the first of them to get engaged and was SO excited to go to the next family get-together and show off my new sparkly sparkly! Not in a snooty way though, they all have known and loved my Fiance forever and were/are super excited for us.
Also, the supervisor I had at the time was a huge B (if you know what I mean) and on top of that was always complaining about how her long time boyfriend wouldn’t propose. To say that I was giddy about getting to go into the office the next day and wave my ring in her face would be an understatement. (I promise I’m not a terrible person!)

Showing it off to all the b*tches I know who rubbed it in my face that they are engaged before me. Its a sparkler!
i had people go ” ohh we’ve only been dating for a few months…I beat you!”

While I am not engaged yet (already picked out the diamond just waiting for it to be put into ring and sized… and then for the proposal of course!) I have to admit, Im a little giddy about being about to show some of my friends. I didnt think I would be as excited as I am about the ring, my FH had me pick out the diamond I wanted because he wanted it to be perfect for me and wasnt sure exactly what to get, and now that I know what Im getting I am soooooo excited to show it off! We have been dating for 2 years, and none of our friends know were getting engaged, but one of my friends who has been dating her boyfriend for 4 years tells me all the time how angry she will be if we get engaged before her, and shes really glad were so far from being engaged because she gets to do it first. I just think its rude, and I cant wait to show her my ring and make her shut up about how I better not be getting a ring any time soon. Ha, it sounds so bad, but it just makes me angry!

I had a few reasons!
I wanted something with alot of small diamonds [My ring was $415, so don’t think we spent alot, because we did not]. I love how they sparkle! He had proposed to be with a ring his mother gave him, i don’t even know how small the diamond was but it was TINY.
To stop getting hit on! I used to wear a cheap $25 CZ in attempt to not get hit on as much. [There are a few guys at my work that would just non stop hit on me]. It actually worked for the most part! But then they kept asking me when I was getting married.
All my friends were engaged! That’s superficial, but hey! I’ve been wanting to be in the “married” circle for awhile now!

Definitely love the comments I still get from friends and stranger. Also love taking photos of my ring and posting in threads on the bee lol.

I feel bad for being shallow, but 1. it was DH’s grandmother’s solitaire 2. just a little over 1 ct 3. it was bigger than my supervisor at work’s ring when we got engaged, and she was a nasty person, so when co-workers pointed out to me that mine was bigger/prettier I was kind of “Ha ha!” (but only in my head! I wouldn’t be rude or anything.)

I love how a lot of people ask if my ring is vintage. I loooove vintage rings but Fiance and I had a hard time finding something that I liked within our limited budget, so he ended up buying me a new one that was made to be a copycat. Most people can’t tell though — even random strangers will comment on how it must’ve been my grandmother’s! But nope, it came straight from a chain store 😉

The fabulous comments from random strangers when I’m just going about my business and not even thinking about my ring. Or when I’m running errands in my sweats, unshowered and no makeup, my ring proudly displays (to others) that someone loves me, even when I’m a hot mess

I love your answer and I agree!
I know this is really shallow, so I would only say it here among “my people” on the WeddingBee. I love the sheer sparkliness and bling of my ring. I love that it’s 2.25 TCW and it glitters like a million sparkly stars in the sunlight. It is absolutely captivating and I can’t take my eyes off of it sometimes!
